Reviewed 26 August 2014 via mobile

Last week went with wife and sons filly with grand kids , the car very is excellent value with great selection, the locally brewed cask ale was good too.

The wine list is well priced compared to other local establishments within the area and good quality.

Can't wait for our daughter and family to visit from down south probably go before come!!

Great food and atmosphere - highly recommend. Reasonable prices for full meals plus nibbles menu. Very popular with locals - families and couples.

“Go to Romneys.....Brilliant”
Reviewed 19 August 2014

My wife and I have just returned to Yorkshire having had a two day trip to the lakes. Luckily we stayed at Romneys. The rooms were BRILLIANT with a comfy settee to watch the massive flat screen television and the accomodation was unbeatable, very very clean with the choice of eating in if you so wished using the kitchen all like brand new, or a takeaway. A second massive flat screen telly was found on the roof in the bedroom.
The carvery was to die for with a great menu also to choose from. I had to have the carvery again on the second night it was just too good to be true.
Will we go again WITHOUT A DOUBT WE WILL.

“It would have been five stars, but...”
Reviewed 19 August 2014

My wife and I had two trips to Romney's in August 2014. The first was for Sunday Lunch with a couple of friends. It was busy and we had to wait for a table, but after about 15 mins the tall manager (presume manager - who was very welcoming and efficient) found us a table. The carvery was excellent, good value for money and we all left thinking what a great place! We returned (just my wife and I) later that week because we had such a nice time. This time, we arrived at 5.45pm on Friday. The place was busy, but nowhere near as busy as Sunday. The tall manager was not on duty. We went to order drinks a get a table. At which point a young barman told us that it was so busy (it wasn't that busy) that there wouldn't be a table available until 8.30pm. Seriously? Be aware that having telephoned beforehand we were told that you can't book, you just arrive and wait for a table. It's good, but not that good that I would be prepared to wait two and a half hours for a table. Again, it was nothing like as busy as Sunday when we waited 15 minutes. We did question it, but were told that if we wanted a table, you can have that one by the door (which no one wanted as everyone walked past you - also tiny table basically for drinks not meals) or you can wait until 8.30pm. I do not think this would have happened had the Sunday manager been present. It really took the edge off the place for us, so we have found other decent places to eat in Kendal instead. We are local so they have lost our custom for a while. We will go back to Romney's again, but really disappointed second time around.

“Good food and service”
Reviewed 19 August 2014

Went in a family party of 8 on a friday night. Service was good and order taken quickly. Food arrived in good time. The portions were good and the food was tasty. (One meal was forgotten but quickly sorted and a round of drinks offered as a way of apology- greatly received) the service was friendly and atmosphere nice.
A good local pub that has got it right.
