My sister and I were walking through Kendal yesterday in a hurry when I spotted this little place and was immediately interested, as I love Thai food but don't have regular access to it, as I live in the back of beyond. It's primarily a takeaway, but there are several comfy tall stools next to a breakfast bar in the window, where it's possible to eat in. I persuaded my sister to stop and we went in.
Because we were hurrying I only looked at the fantastically good-value lunch menu (less than £5 for a generous main course) and so I quickly ordered phad Thai and my sister, a veggie, went for the spicy noodle soup with tofu. The cheerful and friendly woman who took our order nipped upstairs and cooked it from scratch! I could hear the pan sizzling. There was a regular customer eating a jungle curry at the bar, and I then noticed the fuller menu available either to eat in or for takeaways.
When the food came it was delicious. Even my veggie sister was impressed. We chatted with the owner, and she told us that she was about to start giving cooking lessons in the evenings. There'll be groups of 4. Each person chooses something from the menu and the owner teaches the group how to cook all 4 dishes. It sounded so good that I signed up to learn how to cook the phad Thai :)
I only wish I lived closer, as I'd definitely be there several times a week. Highly recommended, though!
