“Very friendly welcome”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 July 2014

We stayed for a couple of nights and received a very nice welcome from Yvonne and Emily and the dog. Room was small but clean and light. Breakfast was very good. Very convenient for Kendal town centre. Would definitely recommend it to other travellers.

My husband and I booked for two nights. Yvonne was very helpful and allowed me to check in earlier and drop luggage off before going off to a wedding. Breakfast was excellent. I particularly enjoyed the home made preserve and would happily have dined in the evening had it been an option.
Comfortable, clean and within five minutes walk to the town. Decor may not be to everyones taste but good value for money.

Lyndhurst is a very conveniently located guesthouse, an easy 15 minute walk into Kendal. Yvonne, the owner, gave us a very warm welcome and her breakfast was excellent. Our twin room was very small but clean and nicely decorated if a little dated. The beds were quite hard but Yvonne was in the process of addressing that. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and recommend it as a base to explore the area from. Thanks Yvonne!

We'll start with the strong point of this b and b - a great breakfast, with locally sourced product and staff who care about cooking it well. So much so, that a request from our party for crispy bacon met with resistance, and an explanation about the type and source of the bacon, and how crisping it would ruin it! The 'full cumbrian' includes black pudding, beans, egg, and of course bacon, on toast. A generous freshly cooked portion, and bottomless fresh cafetiere coffee and juice. A very pleasant way to start the day.

The rooms our party stayed in were a decent size, with their own en suite, which was clean and pleasant.

Our hosts were very accomodating with our late arrival, and made an easy arrangement for us to pick up keys and let ourselves in. Everyone working here was very friendly, which was nice to experience, and one of the great things about staying b and b.

Now for the down sides: the walls to our room were thin - so our early-rising neighbours' noise bled into our room. Don't expect a sleep in is guaranteed here. Likewise, late night tv and talk penetrates the room walls very easily. Our room also had a velux window in the roof which wasn't completely covered, so if the neighbours didn't wake us, the sun did!

Our room amenities were decent but basic - a kettle and instant coffee/tea making facilities, but our kettle leaked and didn't seem entirely safe. There was a small flat-screen tv in the room, but it was located at the top of a very high cupboard, which made it impossible to watch properly. We weren't in the Lake District to watch tv, luckily, but it seemed an odd arrangement. The bathroom has a very basic set of toiletries - a bottle of shower gel and a bottle of hand soap.

We booked a lateish breakfast slot, but on our first morning were asked to leave so they could clean up before we'd finished our coffee. We found ourselves in the lounge room to finish our coffee. It wasn't quite clear during our stay whether this was a communal room or not - in the evenings it was shut and seemed to be our hosts' lounge room.

All in all I would book here again, but perhaps not for a special or romantic weekend.

Some people mention experiencing parking problems here - we certainly did! It seems to be a matter of luck. Also, in the low season (we stayed in February) be aware that your choices at night in town are a bit more limited than in high summer. We struggled to find dinner at 9pm on a Saturday night, and ended up with a (perfectly good) Thai takeaway.

Room Tip: No lifts and steep stairs! Beware the top floor with heavy bags. Only choose the velux window room...

Stayed here last august, the staff were friendly and helpful, the room was comfortable and clean, unlike some of the other reviews I don't mind a small tv as I wasn't there to stay in.
Breakfast was really nice and overall a lovely experience.
