“How not to run a hotel...”
Reviewed 29 June 2014

This hotel is tucked away behind a BP garage on the A591 - Be prepared to stab the brakes on and watch for cars behind you as you make the hairpin bend into the car park! Coming from the North requires an illegal U-turn and a long wait for a suitable gap so as not to instigate a messy pile-up on this race-track of a road.
We spent 4 nights here with our 2 dogs. Firstly I think it's worth being positive about this chain's attitude to dogs. Also, the beds are gorgeous and the room was clean and modern. Now the problems...
Noise... I said NOISE!!! Yes it is convenient being close to the A591 but means having the windows closed all the time. We were lucky(?) in having pretty cool weather in June. If you had a hot day you would probably melt in these rooms (where the windows only open a crack on the 1st floor for "safety" reasons). Travelodge are too mean to put in aircon of course but will lend you a fan if you ask nicely.
KEYS which do not work... Long story short, we had both cardkeys reprogrammed several times
over the four days. One staffer admitted that the system was unreliable!
Crap TV - obviously TL policy to get as much use out of their kit as possible, thus analogue TV sets still in use long after everyone else is on Freeview or Sky... no sport, no news channels, no BBC3 or BBC4 and only 2 radio channels (both sport).
Other irritations include... no mini-fridge, no shaving light in bathroom, fierce car park lights seem to be trained on the building!

In summary then, avoid in hot weather but otherwise ok, ish.

Room Tip: avoid rooms at the front.

good locale for visiting lake district areas, but transport essential. Quiet location considering on a dual carriageway.Signage could be improved as was almost upon it before seeing sign. Garage convenience store reasonably priced too.

We recently stayed overnight at the Travel lodge in Kendal (we have stayed before). It is more expensive than other lodges we have stayed in but that's because it is in the Lakes (I think?). The staff both evening and morning were really lovely (two nice young men). Our room was clean and spacious and all you need. It is a great base for exploring the Lakes and Kendal itself. There are enough bars, eating places etc in Kendal nearby for evening times.

Room Tip: We had a room at the front a little noisy (we did keep window open as it was hot. We have stayed ups...

Good clean accomodation. Pleased we were in a back room as front one close to a busy main road. Reception staff extremely helpful. Wish the laundry lorry came to pick up later in the morning. Will go back again

A lovely and clean hotel, and a wonderful place to stay. Staff where very helpful, however nobody was able to take your bags to your room especially when travelling with the older guest. Room we had was very very clean. for £16 a night you cant go wrong !

We were on our way to Keswick for a week but decided to visit an Aunt ( aged 102 ! ) in Kendal the day before. Hence our stay at this Travelodge. The beautiful exterior is misleading as the interior, recently 'refreshed' not refurbished, is a disappointment. We paid £85 for one night and expected more. The room was sparse just a bed and one plastic chair. Not what we expected for 2 adults. Having said that the bed was new and very comfy and the room very clean. No restaurant on site so had breakfast at nearby Asda which was excellent value.
