The location is very central in Kendal, the free parking suggested was not a problem at all during our stay and was only a few minutes walk away from the house.
The house was great and was ideal for our party of four.
You need to understand the addressing: this is Residence 1 in Yard 30, with only two other residences nearby. The 2 level house is compact but efficient, and warm during the filthy weather we had. The hidden courtyard is just of the original Market Place, with 3 pubs and 3 tea rooms within 50 yards. Even a chocolaterie. Pizza Express belies its name and provides an excellent Italian experience, and Booths is 3' away. We parked for a week in Blackall Rd, and always found space. Perfect for two, but 4 will fit, just. We would come back quickly, if we could.
A family of 4 with 2 teenage girls we found the accomodation with its central location very suitable. Everything was pretty and in good shape and appreciated a lot having a TV in each bedroom. Possible negative points for other people could be: there is not bedroom with twin beds, the only table is one floor under the kitchen, parking is at some distance. These things didn't bother us. Only remark there are other people living above you and you definitely hear them from the bedrooms. Still we loved the place and a very pleasant stay.
Ideal for anyone wanting anything in the Lake District. Tucked away in the corner of the market place, through one of the many yard tunnels that Kendal is famous for, close to the hustle and bustle of this busy town u find a piece of tranquillity set in your own private garden with terrace, decking and grass area. I cannot describe how quiet this place is, even on a busy Saturday u cannot tell that u r located in the centre. The house on two levels, living/dining room downstairs 2 bedrooms a bathroom and open galley kitchen on the ground floor. Decor is cottage modern, extremely nice. A nice welcome tray with tea/coffee biscuits and a nice 2 pint milk in the fridge. Kitchen has it all except freezer and washing machine. Bedrooms r snug and cosy, large double beds with a bit of storage in each, back room has patio doors with balcony bars lovely on a sunny morning. TV, Freesat downstairs a selection of dvds a selection of books, board games and few children's toys. They had put out a fresh bar of soap and plenty of loo roll in the tasteful bathroom, shower was nice after a day of roaming.
I would suggest only flaws were no direct parking, but consider town centre location and the 4 min walk to free parking by river not a disaster, we put our car on market place whilst we put of stuff inside. Only other flaw would be the open stairs, as we have a 2 year old who is mobile, would advise taking a travel stair gate if ur youngster's r prone to getting up in the night, we took to lying a folding chair across the stairs gap to prevent, FYI there are a number of motion sensor bight lights throughout the hall and toilet area which was an amazing touch, such a simple but useful idea.
In a nutshell, cosy, comfortable with everything you need. A perfect base not in the main Lakes tourist parts which is a bonus. Want to go back, think this is YOUR best self catering solution if u want a lake stay, never drove more than 40 mins to anywhere we wanted to go.
Fantastic location great accommodation perfect for a relaxing break. Ideally situated for easy access to many locations in the lake district.
The Market Place Hideaway is in a great location for exploring the lake District.
The property was spotless & well equipped. The thoughtful & unexpected little extras made for an enjoyable stay.
We spent 3 nights in Market Place Hideaway, Kendal and had a great time. The cottage is in a fabulous location right in the centre. It's modern and clean and with lots of lovely touches like tea bags and Kendal mint cake provided, board games, dvds, kids toys etc. Lynn was great at communicating how to get there and where to park.
The only thing I'd say is that the tripadvisor page doesn't make it very clear about the parking situation. There isn't a parking spot and so you have to park in Kendal. However, there is a large free car park several hundred yards away. Failing this the multi-storey car park is very close (5th floor is closest to the property) and costs about £6 per day.
I think we'll definitely be staying again sometime soon!
