A beautiful old building in a fantastic location overlooking the park and views onward to Derwent Water. The hotel however are making the most of this and charging a room rate which if this hotel were anywhere else you just wouldn’t want to stay there. We paid £100 a night for a room on the front of the hotel which was classed as a “Superior” room, and while everybody would have their own definition of “Superior” I would at least expect it to be clean. Large cobwebs around the ceiling, dusty skirting boards and a shower head which had never been cleaned in what would appear to be many months did not make this superior in my opinion.
The room we stayed in could also do with being updated to bring it in line with other hotels in the same street, i.e the Highfield Hotel right next door where we stayed earlier this year.
My advice would be visit the terrace as it is open to non-residents and sit with a drink and enjoy the view and then go back to your cheaper/cleaner guest house elsewhere in Keswick.More
