The George is a few steps away from The Moot Hall, in the Centre of Keswick. The Hotel has a busy bar and restaurant. The breakfast was excellent, help yourself to fruit, cereals, toast and juices. Then choose from the menu a full cooked breakfast, or whatever you want.
There is limited parking to the rear of the Hotel, but there is more provision nearby. You can't check in before 3pm. The one thing that the hotel lacks is a lounge but it is limited by the size of the site. The WiFi does not work in the bedrooms but a good signal can be had in the bar area. We had room number 10 on the second floor which had a street view. The bathroom was spacious, and there was adequate room in the bedroom. The staff were pleasant and we enjoyed or stay.

Excellent, attentive, well-trained staff, looking after our every need. Really good home cooked food - excellent value for money and all in the best bar in Keswick! Weather was typical Lakes - pouring, but still had a wonderful time!

We stayed here at the end of July for the weekend. We were given a parking permit straight away, one that could be used in several locations in Keswick, then we were given the keys to the room. Room 4 was massive, really big bed loads of room, last time we stayed in Keswick the room was quite small so this room was great. Been in the pub before, but never stayed here. Breakfast was excellent, I had a full 'un on the Saturday ready for a days walking in the fells, didn't need much else for the rest of the day. Breakfast was so good I had another full 'un on the Sunday, nice portion size, quality sausage and bacon, as much toast etc...as you want. We'll be back here again!

Room Tip: Room 4 was a big one

I stayed here for 2 nights in July (room number 2, back of the hotel). Overall, not bad - could be better. I paid much less for the first night and on that basis would have called it a bargain!

Positives? Staff were friendly and helpful (especially in the bar and restaurant), food was good and not too pricey, and the room was large and clean with a good shower, nice large towels, and a comfy bed. Pretty much what I need for a short stay,

EXCEPT for wifi. That was disappointing! No coverage in my room - could only really connect in the bar downstairs. There is a Costa Coffee round the corner with ample free access so you won't be cut-off altogether, but perhaps worth knowing about if constant/in-your-room access is important to you.

It was also incredibly hot in my room - kind of a wall of heat that hit you when you went into the back part of the hotel upstairs, in contrast to other areas that seemed much cooler. It WAS also hot weather, so I opened the window wide (increasing the noise levels somewhat), turned on the little fan that was provided and decided not to mind! If in doubt, in the summer it may be worth asking for a room at the front of the hotel which seemed cooler?

The heat and wifi issues aside, this is not the poshest place in the world - but perfectly fine and well-located in the centre of town. I wouldn't book it if I was looking for somewhere special, but was good as a base for working (and I'm sure the same would be true for touristing or walking!) I'll definitely use it again if the price is right.

Room Tip: Ask whether rooms at the front are cooler in the summer. Also - my room just had a shower so double...

We always come here now for a drink when in Keswick. The George is centrally located and has a great selection of real ales which are well kept; primarily Jennings ales - Sneck Lifter is a favourite and always on the menu. Other good selection of lagers and ciders are available.

The staff are friendly and service is prompt. There is a good atmosphere here and it always has a good number of people inside; always a good sign.

We have not eaten here so unable to comment, but lots do; we have seen the size of the infamous cow pie and wonder how you could get through it without additional help.

Wifi is available with a good signal with reasonable bandwidth; this really helped us out as we could catchup with some of the highlights of the TDF this time.

We would definitely recommend to others looking to quench their thirst and will almost certainly be back when next in town.

Just back from a short break to Keswick. Called into the George Hotel after a days walking. Decided to have the half portion of cow pie (pleased I didn't plump for the full portion as couldn't finish the half portion I was so full). Just in case you are wondering cow pie is a pie crammed full of tender steak. Absolutely delicious. My friend plumped for the chicken version and declared it "amazing" If you are in Keswick I highly recommend popping in for a bar meal. Plenty to choose from and a full gluten free menu too.

Thanks to Craig and his staff. We shall be back!!
