We just got back from the Strathmore today. This lovely guesthouse is perfectly situated for Keswick pubs, walks, shops and restaurants. Rooms are great - even have wine glasses in the room. The breakfast is excellent, very thick slices of bacon and fresh fruit. This best thing about this guesthouse is the owner. He was really welcoming, friendly and made us feel at home. He also gaves us good advice about where to eat. (The George Hotel - excellent). His service didn't end after we left. He rang to say that we had left some clothes in the wardrobe which he is sending back to us today. We had a really relaxing happy time in Keswick and will be booking again. Soon, we hope.

We visited the Lake District for the first time in mid-August and decided on Keswick as our base more by chance. I spoke to Paul, the owner, on the phone before making my reservation and he confirmed that my choice would be ideal for first time visitors and so it proved. Strathmore House is in an excellent location in Keswick. The area is quiet but within walking distance of the town centre with some excellent restaurants (the Lake's Bistro) and the Theatre on the Lake. (Avail of the money off vouchers provided by B&B owners for the theatre.) Paul and Jodi are great hosts with good local knowledge, particularly helpful to first timers. Room 2, as previous reviewers have mentioned, is a lovely room with small sofa and flat screen TV - well worth the extra if you can get it. The premises is clean and well cared for and food and service are excellent. We really enjoyed our visit to the Lakes and if like us you are first time visitors you could do no better than pick Strathmore House as your base - we would hope to be back.

Room Tip: Room 2 - small sofa and flat screen TV - well worth the extra

We first stayed at Strathmore in September 2005 and enjoyed our stay there so much that we have returned there in September every year since. It is ideally situated for walking into Keswick to shops and restaurants and has ample parking at the rear. Accommodation, food and service is superb. For further details of its location and accommodation go to www.strathmorekeswick.co.uk

Room Tip: We always book Room #2 because it has a good view across to St.John's churchyard and it has a private shower and bathroom plus digital TV and DVD player

What a lovely, friendly, family run business right in the heart of Keswick. The accommodation was clean and bed very comfortable with nice white linen and towels. The breakfast was of a very high standard, sourcing local produce which was fresh and tasty.
The couple who own the Strathmore Guest House were extremely welcoming and helpful and we couldn't of wished for a better, more relaxing weekend away. We will definitely stay in the accommodation again in the near future and will be recommending it to friends and family.

An excellent place to stay, very clean and comfortable, the fantastic breakfast will keep you going all day. Paul and Jodie make you feel very welcome and their local knowledge is always there in plenty should you need it. Ideally situated it is only a few minutes walk to Keswick town centre and the lake.
