A very enjoyable performance with the only big down side being the length of it - 1/2 hour less and it would have been perfect. For a while in the latter half it kind of lost it's way which is where it might have been worth chopping 30 mins from. The individual performances were at times mesmeric and completely absorbing making the only regret that we didn't see them perform in some of the other plays while we were in Keswick. It was interesting reading one of the reviewers on here comment that it was too scary - trust me , it isn't! Well worth a visit and the theatre staff on the evening couldn't have been more pleasant and helpful.

A repertory theatre - this theatre is completely manned by enthusiastic volunteers. The acting was a trifle overdone - but also done with enthusiasm and raised much laughter. The set was extraordinarily detailed and well constructed and the little theatre production a delightful - and unexpected - interlude to our holiday.

Theatre experience great as usual. The production gets a little lost in the last 15 minutes but was still good overall

A farce that was far too slow to be humorous and a performance of Dracula that was bordering on the comic and went on, and on, and on. Truly wish I had left at the interval and done something useful, like rearrange my sock drawer. It cannot be fair to the actors to make such a poor choice of raw material for them to present. One of my favourite places in the UK to visit and enjoy but maybe the crown is slipping!

Dear Visitor,

Thank you for your comment. We’re very sorry to hear that you were dissatisfied with the plays you saw.

Rookery Nook has proved quite popular with critics, receiving a four-star review from WhatsOnStage.com! It is a product of “way-back-when” having been written and debuted in the 1920’s, and proved immensely popular as one in twelve of – what are now known as – the Aldwych Farces. It is the intention for the piece to provide an entertaining night out through the recreating of the joviality of yesteryear. So we are very disappointed to hear that you found it unsuccessful in achieving this.

Dracula is one of the most ambitious shows we have ever undertaken here. The production has received several excellent reviews in the press, including in The Independent (four stars) and WhatsOnStage (five stars), as well as some glowing audience feedback.
Certainly, one of the most challenging aspects of staging such a production is that of meeting the inevitably high expectations that are inherent in presenting a character of such fame and status.

It presents significant challenges in realising Lochhead’s vision, which encompasses a number of diverse but interlocking storylines; characters whose experiences range from ordinary life to extreme corruption of emotion; and many different locations. Then, add to this the fame and status of the source material – as well as being considered a great canonical novel, it has captured the popular imagination. Any adaptation has a lot to live up to.

Significant work went into creating characters who demonstrate both the most “human” and “inhuman” tendencies. Matthew Vaughan who plays Dracula has commented on his approach to the role. He was keen to try forming a character who can be seductive, charming and debonair; dry and withered; clever; and monstrously bloodthirsty all at the same time.

We do appreciate the patronage of our audiences and take on board all feedback, and we sincerely hope that this won’t have a negative impact on you attending future shows.

Best wishes,

Only one night in Keswick so I thought I'd treat my daughter to a touch of culture, a 'Comedy of Errors' by Shakespeare. We both thought that we'd have trouble understanding the language and plot but not a bit of it, the acting was first class and the whole cast were excellent. We both thoroughly enjoyed the evening but I was still glad that it was one of his shorter plays, not sure I could put up with more than 2 hours. Overall I really enjoyed it!
