This was our second six night stay at the Highfield. We've had occasions before where a repeat visit to a hotel has been disappointing compared to the first stay but that was not the case at the Highfield. The rooms are very high quality and the food is stunning. Many of the staff from three years ago were still working there and they are all very good. The weather was absolutely appalling but at least we had a comfortable room and quality food to keep our spirits up. Location is also superb and the views from some of the rooms are lovely. Highly recommended from a seasoned traveller.

Room Tip: First floor rooms with bay window better for winter. In summer first floor rooms with balcony if the...

I have visited the Highfield on many occasions and it never fails to please, from the amazing customer service, the friendly staff and the delicious food, you really can't go wrong. The hotel is ideally located for walking into the town centre, the Theatre by the Lake and down into Hope Park. Nick the manager is delightful and very helpful. I have breathing difficulties and Nick helped me to get my bags out of the car and put them back for me before I left. We even had sunshine!

We have just had a wonderful week at this excellent hotel, (weather was appalling though, but that’s the Lakes for you). We were warmly greeted by Nick the manager who saw us personally to our room (The Woodford). The room was marvellous, a large and well appointed bathroom, with a deep bath that was gainfully employed after a full days slog on the Fells. The overall layout of the room was excellent, complete with the biggest bed I have ever seen, and an elevated seating area with comfy chairs to watch telly. The evening meals are first rate; we ate there three of the six nights; the service is top drawer, and the quality of the food is of an extremely high standard. If you are strictly B&B, the breakfast will not disappoint, the Cumberland full English is to die for. The location of the hotel could not be more convenient to Keswick, literally minutes from the centre of town and the Theatre by the Lake. And last, but by no means least, there is plenty of private parking behind the Hotel. All in all, this is a very civilised establishment, with well-trained and helpful staff and a credit to the manager.

Room Tip: Book the Woodford, it will not disappoint

Car parking, 5 min. walk into the centre are important in Keswick. Add to it, this hotel is incredibly comfortable, has great views, exceptional service, and a restaurant that serves top,top food. We were a party of 6, and we all thought the same. We will definitely use this hotel again.

Room Tip: the lake views were great from the higher floors

We spent a week at the Highfield as a family to celebrate my 40th wedding anniversary. The hotel is on the outskirts of Keswick, within 5 minutes walk of the centre, but quiet. The views from the windows are gorgeous, the rooms well laid out and very comfortable, and the staff are helpful and approachable. My grandson was unwell during our stay and they went out of their way to assist us.

We went for dinner and were expecting good things from the reviews. We weren't disappointed, especially by the huge portions! My boyfriend's steak was also superb. You could almost have drunk it with a straw it was so tender. Well worth the extra supplement. All the food was great. No room left for a dessert though unfortunately. Service impeccable.

We stayed for 5 nights in August. This was our 5th stay here over the last 10 years. We were pleased to find that the quality of the food was as good as it always was. The reception staff and Nick (the manager) were all very friendly and helpful.

The only reason I have not given this hotel 5 stars is because of the towels policy. On previous visits, there had been a notice in the bathroom stating that towels would be changed every 2 days unless we left them in the shower/bath in which case they would be changed each day. This time there was no notice, so we left them over the shower and when we came in the next evening we found them where we had left them – still wet from the morning. I complained to the Receptionist and she immediately brought us two bath sheets. At this point my husband read the Hotel Service guide and read that the hotel’s policy on towels is to change them every two days, and if we want them changing every day there will be a charge! My main objection to this was that we had nowhere to dry our towels – only a small radiator in the shower room which was nowhere near big enough to hold two bath sheets. The next day we left them on the floor and they were changed, but the following day when we left them on the floor the cleaner had picked them up from the floor and slung them over the shower! This is not the service I expect from a £120 per room per night hotel. Even Premier Inns change the towels every day. The manager was most apologetic, immediately brought us fresh towels and said he would bring this up at the next meeting so hopefully this will get resolved. I gather that this isn't such a big issue in most rooms, as most bathrooms have a heated towel rail.

Another annoyance is that when I returned home I logged on to Trip Advisor, and there is an offer of a free 4-course dinner between 5th August and 31st August for anyone booking three or more nights at B&B rate. We had booked 5 nights at B&B rate between these dates but were not offered the free dinner – that was kept conveniently quiet. Or maybe we weren't valued because we had booked early.

I would still recommend this hotel but before I book again I shall check on the towels policy to see if it has changed.
