Stayed with four other couples and had a great weekend.
The staff at the hotel are friendly and courteous.
In particular Nick the manager exceeded our expectations.
The rooms are large and comfortable,we had a lovely view looking toward derwentwater, our bed was super king size and was very comfortable.
We stayed on a dinner bed and breakfast deal direct with the hotel.
The breakfast was cooked to order, plentiful and of good quality.
Dinner was absolutely amazing with up to 6 choices per course.
All our party commented on the high standard of the staff, the food and the accommodation.
The hotel is ideally situated for the town and walks alike.

Good views over the lake and fells, combined with friendly, personal and attentive service. Breakfast and dinner meals were very good and consistent. Our room had a turret with a view, an unusual enhancement of our stay! Well situated for walkers and highly recommended.

We stayed for 3 nights at the Highfield in mid October. First floor room was a good size, clean with a very comfortable bed. View of Derwentwater, Catbells and Borrowdale etc was lovely from the window and the location is just about perfect. Pretty much left the car untouched for the days we stayed as we could walk to the boats then onto the hills, walk from the hotel plus shop and eat in various places in Keswick in 5 mins. We didn't eat dinner in the hotel as there are so many restaurants to choose from in walking distance, but the breakfast was really good whether you wanted continental or a good choice of cooked breakfasts. We've stayed in a few hotels in the lake district but based on location alone this is hard to beat if you want walking, shopping and eating all within minutes. Staff were really helpful and pleasant and free wifi was an unexpected bonus.

Room Tip: 1st floor rooms at front seem to have bigger windows and excellent views

Nice hotel and very near to the centre of Keswick. We stayed for two nights on the second floor and wished we had paid that little bit more as although we had a view of the lake it was quite a small window and you had to sit by the window to see the view. Very comfortable bed and nice fluffy towels. We had dinner on the second night which was fab and you certainly won't be hungry the portions are huge, we couldn't manage pudding.
We were a little disappointed not to have received the current discount they are offering for dinner,b & b for the night we had dinner if they had they would have exceeded our expectations especially as we booked and paid a £50 deposit in July. However, I note that to receive the discount you have to book directly with the hotel so maybe it is best to look on their website before you book.
We did enjoy our stay and would use this hotel again.

Room Tip: Pay a little extra to get a good view of the lake and go for a room on floor 1

We stayed for six nights mid-September 2012. Our room was on the first floor, looking directly across Hope Park/Crow Park to Derwentwater and Borrowdale - lovely! Very comfortable room and bed with nearly all the amenities one could wish for and nice touches (great towels, good bath with powerful shower, fluffy bathrobes, coffee/tea & biscuits renewed each day etc). Service was outstanding. Nothing was too much trouble; and the staff always managed to be courteous and helpful, as well as interested in what you did day by day, without being either too formal or too familiar. Perhaps the strongest quality was in the food. First class menus with plenty of choice, all presented beautifully and so tasty! We so looked forward to the evening meal each day. In four courses each evening for six nights there was only one dish that I would have criticised - and that may be a matter of taste.

No wonder that all the people we talked to during our stay were repeat visitors to this lovely hotel. We hope to be so ourselves!

Room Tip: Get an upper floor room with a view of Derwentwater. Those with the bay windows are quite spacious...

We have just returned from a two night stay at The Highfield. We stayed in the chapel that has been converted into a vast bedroom. The huge ornate bed would bring restful sleep to the worst insomniac and the roll top bath was an irristable invitation after a days trecking. The hotel was spotless and the staff polite with out being intrusive.

We dined on the saturday evening and had the most delicious steak ever cooked by mankind. The meat was so finely cooked it was almost as delicate as a dessert. Beautiful. The dessert itself was appe pie which again was completely gorgeous. All this plus another two courses for the ridiculously cheap price of £25.00.

Breakfast was a perfectly cooked smoked haddock with crumbly flakes of fishmeat smoked to perfection.

the telly didnt work but if you want to watch the goggle boxy in a place like this then there is obviously something not quite right with your relationship

Tremendous value will definately visit again

I cannot recommend this hotel too highly.

Following great comments onTripadvisor we were looking forward to our stay at the Highfield, especially as we had booked the well reviewed Woodford room. We were shown to our room with the comment that the windows had been left open to air the room. Unfortunately, the musty smell did not disappear during the 3 days of our stay, even though we left the windows open all day.The television was very old & not able to show a complete picture! The remote control was broken & had to be handled very carefully or it fell apart. The bed was big but the mattress lumpy. Some of the public areas are rather shabby, especially the entrance from the car park.
The service is charming, the breakfast delicious & the hotel is very well situated.
