We booked a night accomadation as we live locally ( well £40 taxi )
We arrived at 4 ish dumped our bags and put to explore, unfortunately we had to use the £40 taxi to go home due to personal circumstances . So I paid my £120 bill for my 5 minutes in the room .
The hotel offered no goodwill , I even paid for the breakfast we didn't eat .... Mmmmmmmmm lovely not ?????

We recently spent a two-night break at this hotel. Our room was lovely with a balcony looking out across to Derwentwater, nice en-suite with, very importantly, BIG bathtowels and a very efficient heated towelrail.
The food was exceptional, a wonderful choice of menu and a very sensible wine list.
I would point out that there is no lift, not a problem for us but may be a consideration for some people.
We took advantage of an offer from the hotel's website which was extremely good value for money.

Room Tip: The rooms are shown on the website with very good description so look at these. Rooms facing front h...

I am honestly not sure where to start, A beautiful amazing Hotel and an even better room. We were lucky enough to have booked the Woodford room, a former chapel and an amazing size, the room is spacious, beautiful, ornate, clean, fresh and simply precious. The bathroom is wonderful and as clean as a whistle. The bed is HUGE!!! A gas fired log burner in the living area a 3d tv with 2 pairs of specs so you can look like a right pillock whilst watching Tv, if you so wish!! We booked on a dinner, bed and breakfast basis which I cannot recommend highly enough. The food is simply stunning, from chef's canapes in the lounge to the sumptuous desserts it just rings of quality, quality ingredients, quality staff (always there but never intrusive), the quality of the management in running such an establishment is to be admired. I cannot speak highly enough of this wonderful place and am sure it will take some beating. I wish I could afford to stay every weekend!!! I am sure we will be back I cannot imagine a reason not to repeat this amazing stay. Thankyou to all the staff and management at the Highfield and especially to the newly married Mr and Mrs Beattie for making our stay so special.

Room Tip: The Woodford room is simply stunning.

Returned (sadly) from another great break here. The quality of accomodation ,food and friendliness of the staff can always be relied on. Add to this the great views and the fact that this location is also easy to access for non car travellers, make it a winning venue in our book.

Room Tip: Front lake views excellent

The location is very good on The Heads so just a stroll down to Derwentwater or in the other direction for Keswick centre. The parking around the back of the hotel is a bonus.

We were pleasantly welcomed with bags carried to our room. The rooms that i saw were really delightful. Tastefully decorated with lots of character and very comfortable.

The sitting room downstairs is lovely to sit in with views across Lady Hope Park. Staff popped in unobtrusively to enquire whether there was anything they could get for us which was a treat.

Breakfast was wonderful with a menu to make your selection from and our evening meal was of a very good standard too. Service was first class throughout our stay.

My one grievance was that there was a large family group staying with a baby. I am a parent and not adverse to babies! However, one crying baby completely disipates any tranquilty and atmosphere. Having our reading light unplugged so they could plug in the baby monitor was a little galling. Having a crying baby keeping me awake for most of the night was extremely so. The hotel could say that this was out of their hands and that they are a family hotel but i feel it is only really suitable for children aged 5 and up. The restaurant i think states it is for children over 8 but we did see younger children there.

Room Tip: Make sure there are no babies or toddlers staying!!

We spent the New Year at this family friendly hotel with a view of Derwent Water and some additional small lakes on the 9 hole golf course due to the heavy rainfall prior to our visit! The welcome from staff was very good and staff service was excellent troughout our stay. There was a very good menu with plenty of choice and wines which were at a reasonable price. Food standards were high and all four of us enjoyed this New Year experience.Rooms were clean, beds comfortable and decor was of a reasonable standard although one bedroom had an ill fitting window. This was a thoroughly enjoyable small hotel and we would definitely return to this great little getaway in the Lakes. All staff were very helpful and attentive but not intrusive.

Room Tip: Lake view rooms recommended.

Stayed here with family for my 65th and had an excellent time. Staff were very helpful, food was superb and it all made for a very good stay for us all. Very traditional superlative British hospitality with well-trained and accommodating staff. One of the best small hotels have ever stayed in.

Room Tip: Stayed in the Woodford - no lakeside view but large and very comfortable. Wi-fi works well!
