“Highly recommneded - Lovely location with beautiful views across to the hills”
Reviewed 29 June 2014

We just walked in and were lucky there was a room available. The hotel is really well kept with extremely helpful, polite and efficient staff and there is an abundance of off street parking behind. The room had a king size bed and was large, clean and had a really quaint little annex with two chairs in it at the front of the hotel with views across the pitch and putt with the beautiful hills in the background. It was breathtaking and I could had spent another day there and will definitely come back to experience this again in the future. The hotel is ideally placed for a nice stroll down to Derwent Water as well as being close by to the town

Room Tip: We had room 18. Other rooms had a full on view to the lake but we loved the quaintness of this room.

we stayed here for one night. O n arrival we had problems finding the car park as it was around the back, accessible by a limited access road. We parked out of the front and at the reception we were guided to the car park. We were early for check in, but the guy on reception (not sure if he was the manager, though I suspect so) very kindly came out to our car and carried our suitcase in which he then took to our room while we went out until our room was ready. The room was lovely - wonderful view and very clean and very nicely decorated with a lovely bathroom. It all appeared to have been reburbished and the bed was big and comfortable. Really big fluffy towels in the bathroom. It was quite warm in the room (as it was hot outside) but the windows openeed which cooled it down quite quickly. Breakfast was lovely, very nicely cooked and the staff were very friendly. The breakfast room was very quiet though, almost didnt feel like you should talk - a bit of background music would have been nice. However, it appeared that the customers there were all (with the exception of us) very old and quite well to do. Maybe that was the reson for the quietness I don't know. Anyway, it was only 5 minute walk to the centre which was good. We didnt have an evening meal, though other reviews would suggest the food was very good (and I can imagine this would be the case) This was a lovely small hotel and well worth a visit.

Room Tip: number 17 was a lovely room

Lovely hotel with a great restaurant. The menu had a good selection and the wine list offered a selection of wines that complimented the food nicely. The view from our room, across Derwent water, to the hills behind was amazing. We were in room 7. Well apportioned, shower no bath.

This just has to be the best place in the area for food. Real good stuff; genuine, honest, flavoursome, local food. Great service, informal relaxed atmosphere. You won't get better for miles. £80 for 2 glasses of champagne, 2 x 4 course meals and a bottle of wine with the most fabulous view of Catbells etc. Next time we may stay the night, the breakfasts sound fab!

Lovely clean hotel with its own spacious car park at the rear. Efficient and polite staff. Stayed in West Turret, a double room which was quiet with a tower room with seating to look at the views.
Meals were of a high standard. Nothing to fault. Very relaxing atmosphere. Facing the hotel is Hope Park with its Pitch and putt course, putting green and crazy golf. The theatre and town also within comfortable walking distance.

The hotel was very clean. The front desk staff very courteous, helpful and nice. It's a small hotel but very nice specially that it is a dates building.
Location location location - can't stress enough on how great that was. Across the hotel within a short walking distance was the lake with amazing views and beautiful walks. Since we were beginners we couldn't take the more advanced walks. So this walk for us had the most beautiful views. Highly recommend the Highfield!
