Visiting the Lake district with friends from Sweden, we booked 2 rooms at the Highfield based on other excellent Trip Advisor reviews.
Looking out of our upper floor bedroom window (room 7) we had a lovely view across the municipal golf course to the lake (Derwent Water) and mountains in the distance - stunning!

Stayed 2 nights - used the hotel restaurant for breakfasts and 1 evening meal - all meals were really good with very friendly but discrete service.
All the staff seemed permanently happy, and were very friendly and helpful - nothing seemed too much trouble

Parking? - it was not obvious when I booked - but the hotel has it's own car park to the rear, so parking was no trouble and we did not have to fight for the limited on street parking, which guests from some of the other hotels seemed to have to.

Location - very convenient - only 5 minute stroll into Keswick main shopping street - or to the park which incorporates a well maintained municipal garden (Lady Hopes garden) and gentle lakeside walk through the pine forest to a viewing point looking south across Derwent Water.

Hotel offers free WiFi, but signal to the area is a bit iffy, so connection can be a bit hit and miss.
We would definitely stay at this hotel again ...and have no hesitation in recommending it to friends, family or in fact anyone.

Room Tip: Higher floors have a lake view (front of building) but are accessed by stairs (access to the hotel i...

I've just spent 3 nights in the hotel but feel as if I've been away for a week. I met friends here; we were a party of 8 in 5 rooms, but nothing was too much trouble for the staff. My room, number 4, had stunning views, (with a small balcony), large super king bed and shower ensuite. Bed linen and towels were good quality and the room was immaculately made up each day with fresh supplies of shower gel and shampoo etc.
Dinner was a lovely experience, pre dinner drinks in the lounge with canapés and plenty of time to peruse the menu, which changed daily. The food was consistently good; our clean plates after each course was testament to this. I didn't see the wine list (so can't comment on choice) but the wine we had with dinner was quite delicious.
I would certainly recommend the hotel and look forward to my next visit.

Great location near the lake and theatre but handy also for all the town centre shops, pubs etc. Good variety of rooms all well equiped and the rest of the hotel relaxed and full of character. The food is excellent served in a lovely dining room. The staff are friendly and helpful. Will stay here again next time I'm in the area and will be recommending to my friends.

Room Tip: Rooms at the front have a lake view those at the rear a mountain view, the lake views are stunning w...

This hotel is just about perfect. The room had just stunning views down Derwebt Water and this has to be chief reason for staying here, but all aspects of the hotel were really good. A large firm bed; big fluffy towels; high pressure shower. The breakfasts were more than we could manage. We also ate in the hotel. These meals were of a very high standard and quite reasonable. It was a pleasnt few minutes stroll down to the lake which was a pleasant way to digest the dinner. The staff were helpful and I can't think of a better place to base a Lakeland holiday.

We were nearing the end of a tour of Scotland and the North of England and arrived in Keswick and found the Highfield. we were greeted superbly and guided to the car park. The Hotel has so much character. It is clearly an old property but maintanied to such a high standard and clean. We were in the East Turret room with stunning views over the lake. The room was really comfortable with the Turret a great touch. The staff were attentive and friendly and we thoroughly enjoyed our brief stay there. We will be going back and spending more time there as there is so much to do in the surroiunding areas and the Hotel is in a great but quiet location. Highly recommend anyone to stay there. Thanks again from Andy & Joanie.
We also had the evening meal there and have reviewed that separately.

Excellent, We had three rooms, a stunning double and two singles, albeit a little small still very comfortable, and spotlessly clean. The views are stunning from all the three rooms. The staff were all very friendly and welcoming. Breakfast was also excellent..

We just walked in and were lucky there was a room available. The hotel is really well kept with extremely helpful, polite and efficient staff and there is an abundance of off street parking behind. The room had a king size bed and was large, clean and had a really quaint little annex with two chairs in it at the front of the hotel with views across the pitch and putt with the beautiful hills in the background. It was breathtaking and I could had spent another day there and will definitely come back to experience this again in the future. The hotel is ideally placed for a nice stroll down to Derwent Water as well as being close by to the town

Room Tip: We had room 18. Other rooms had a full on view to the lake but we loved the quaintness of this room.
