“Beautiful location”

This hotel is in a wonderful location , close to the park and town but with uninterrupted views across the lake and into the hills which changes every hour. The rooms are stylish and the staff are helpful and pleasant. The food was excellent and in particular the evening dinner which was a very high standard. It was a pity more people were not in the restaurant but we were staying mid week .We would definitely stay there again as the local area offered so many opportunities and it was only a short drive to quite a few beautiful lakes and fells.

Room Tip: A room at the front of the hotel with a view is a must !

We recently spent five nights including a significant birthday at this excellent hotel. Beautiful location, with stunning views and a very pleasant ambience at all times. Delicious food, we enjoyed dinner every night of our stay , served by a very well trained staff team. We would definitely recommend to friends and family ,and having stayed in many hotels in this area, this would now be our choice for any future visits.

We had the Woodford 'room', which is an underwhelming description of what you got. Described as a converted chapel, it is a large room with windows down each side. In the centre of the room is a raised area with chairs table and TV. At the far end of the room is a huge, comfortable, carved bed. The en-suite is through a door at the far end of the room and has a high standard of finish including a deep roll top bath and walk in power shower. The restaurant and lounge have great views over the lake and when the weather is good you can sit out on the terrace and enjoy the sun setting on CatBells and Maiden Moor. The food was delicious. The full Cumbrian really sets you up for a day's walking.
The staff were polite and welcoming, nothing was too much trouble. We have stayed in similar, country house hotels in the lakes over the years and have always found them a little cramped or dated. Not this time. We could not have asked for a more comfortable and welcoming base for a walking holiday.

We booked on Friday for Saturday night and got the last available room. We were informed we wouldn't have a view so we weren't disappointed. We were on the ground floor ( Room11) which was at the back of the hotel, was quiet, well-appointed with a comfy bed, lovely shower room (with toiletries), etc. Breakfast was cooked to order which meant it came piping hot and was delicious. Drinking Pimm's in the terrace garden with such a lovely view was idyllic. The hotel is perfectly located for the lake and town centre and has a private car park. We will definitely be back. Thanks to all staff.

Visiting the Lake district with friends from Sweden, we booked 2 rooms at the Highfield based on other excellent Trip Advisor reviews.
Looking out of our upper floor bedroom window (room 7) we had a lovely view across the municipal golf course to the lake (Derwent Water) and mountains in the distance - stunning!

Stayed 2 nights - used the hotel restaurant for breakfasts and 1 evening meal - all meals were really good with very friendly but discrete service.
All the staff seemed permanently happy, and were very friendly and helpful - nothing seemed too much trouble

Parking? - it was not obvious when I booked - but the hotel has it's own car park to the rear, so parking was no trouble and we did not have to fight for the limited on street parking, which guests from some of the other hotels seemed to have to.

Location - very convenient - only 5 minute stroll into Keswick main shopping street - or to the park which incorporates a well maintained municipal garden (Lady Hopes garden) and gentle lakeside walk through the pine forest to a viewing point looking south across Derwent Water.

Hotel offers free WiFi, but signal to the area is a bit iffy, so connection can be a bit hit and miss.
We would definitely stay at this hotel again ...and have no hesitation in recommending it to friends, family or in fact anyone.

Room Tip: Higher floors have a lake view (front of building) but are accessed by stairs (access to the hotel i...

I've just spent 3 nights in the hotel but feel as if I've been away for a week. I met friends here; we were a party of 8 in 5 rooms, but nothing was too much trouble for the staff. My room, number 4, had stunning views, (with a small balcony), large super king bed and shower ensuite. Bed linen and towels were good quality and the room was immaculately made up each day with fresh supplies of shower gel and shampoo etc.
Dinner was a lovely experience, pre dinner drinks in the lounge with canapés and plenty of time to peruse the menu, which changed daily. The food was consistently good; our clean plates after each course was testament to this. I didn't see the wine list (so can't comment on choice) but the wine we had with dinner was quite delicious.
I would certainly recommend the hotel and look forward to my next visit.

Great location near the lake and theatre but handy also for all the town centre shops, pubs etc. Good variety of rooms all well equiped and the rest of the hotel relaxed and full of character. The food is excellent served in a lovely dining room. The staff are friendly and helpful. Will stay here again next time I'm in the area and will be recommending to my friends.

Room Tip: Rooms at the front have a lake view those at the rear a mountain view, the lake views are stunning w...
