We booked the full board but decided after the first nights food not to eat there for the evening meal again. The hotel's staff were young, friendly and helpful. We stayed in a turret room, which was very warm, although small and a bit 'tired' but had nice views from the front.

my husband took me to this hotel in july for a birthday treat, I was so nervous and worried when my husband told me it was Bed , Breakfast and dinner as i am such a fussy eater and dont like many foods , so when it came to Dinner time i was so worried , i had to pick food that i have not tried before but beleive me when i say the food both nights we stayed was out of this world - fabulous. They have the best Chef working in this place. The staff recommonded the venison to my husband as he said he has tried it twice before and was disappointed well it was the best venison he has eaten . The beakfasts were just as ggod with top quality food again. I would go back to this hotel just for the food and for me to say that well that says it all.
We stayed in the west turret room and it was so lovely with a wonderful sitting area looking out to the views. My husband wanted to pick something special for me and he did just that.
The staff were all so pofessional as others have said and the hotel was clean and perfect
Well i think you can see we loved this hotel , well worth the stay.

We stayed at the Highfield House for four nights, the dinner, bed, breakfast and dinner option, based solely on the previous reviews on Tripadvisor. This stay was the shining star of our trip to the UK this autumn. We had a gorgeous first floor room with a balcony that we sat on and viewed Derwentwater (lake) directly in front of us. The staff was very efficient and friendly--and well trained. Hotel was very clean. Nice crisp linens and towels and a very good sized room. The dining rooms are mint green--intimate in size for the fabulous dining. I do mean fabulous. Several staggered dinner times.. You sit in one of the lounges--eat delighful canapes as you look over the dinner menu. Then you are shown into the dining room. The food was a dream. Each night-four courses--with a vegetarian option. Over the nights we had Old Spot pork, incredible beef filet, fresh salmon, venison, lamb--and all done with fresh ingredients. One afternoon I smelled fresh limes--and that night--there was smoked trout pate with pink grapefruit sections and a fresh lime sauce. Four different WARM breads each night. The hotel is well located to walk to the lake and to town and to the Theater on the Lake where we saw a great Alan Bennett play Lady in the Van. Don't hesitate--stay at this hotel. We certainly will again!!

As part of a reunion with 2 other longstanding friends and wives, 6 of us were booked into this hotel for the weekend. Initial impression from a distance - was it a boarding house? We could not have been more wrong. It was efficently run with a great staff who were relaxed and helpful. The rooms were spacious enough and extremely clean and well maintained. Its location was excellent - good views etc. - but the highlight of it all was the fantastic food! We all immediately agreed to eat there for the full weekend after the first night's meal. Seriously this was as good as most good quality restaurants - and we have all travelled well since heady University days of nearly 40 years ago!!

My wife and I will be returning in the foreseeable future

Enjoyed a 1 night treat at this hotel in one of the "Feature" rooms, room 4. The room was well equipped and pleasant, with a large double bed created by putting 2 twins together. A typical hospitality tray in the room included lots of UHT milks as well as a full range of drinks and 2 "hand made" (not home made) biscuits. As the weather was beautiful we felt we got value for money in paying extra for the balcony with such heavenly views.
An aperitif with canapés in the garden was a lovely prelude to dinner. The evening meal was by far the nicest food we have enjoyed in Keswick (in the past we have enjoyed the food at the Borrowdale Gates, Swinside Lodge, not too far away, but this is the first time we have stayed somewhere in the town itself with good food).
Staff were all courteous, the young Polish man looking after reception was highly professional throughout our stay.
One small suggestion for improvement would be to offer the option of toast AFTER the cooked breakfast - but so few places do so. The cooked breakfast was very nice and freshly prepared and I enjoyed the range of fresh fruit, red fruit compote and prunes which was available as well as the standard cereal and juices.

Me & the wife spent the easter break at this lovely hotel with great views of Derwent Water from the front. We stayed in room 17 which is on the top floor. The room was clean and well laid out if a little on the small side but still comfortable.
Made to feel welcome on first arrival even if it's a bit of a climb up the flight of stairs as there's no lift, still it keeps you fit.
What set's this hotel from the many other's is the quality of the food. It's a cut above the usual standard dished out by so many.
The service was a little lesurely at times but this is a small price to pay for the quality of the dishes not a wiff of a microwave in sight.
The menu changed daily with a large amount of local produce been used.
Have spoken to other guests many are repeat customers which I think speaks voulmes of the overall experience.
I'm looking forward to visting the Highfield again hopefully soon.

This is the best hotel we've ever stayed in! The food was superb, I have a severe wheat allergy so it is always with trepedation we eat anywhere but I was overwhelmed not only with the amount of choice I was given, but with the care taken to prepare and serve my food. There was a different menu every night and plenty of food itself. It was beautifully presented. It was the little things like the waiting on staff brushing any crumbs away between courses that make this hotel stand out. The staff were all friendly without being obtrusive. The room was immaculate and tastefully decorated. It was lovely and warm! The rest of the hotel reflected the high standards in the food and our bedroom. The views were stunning. A fantastic place to base any holiday from, definitely highly recommended
