Parkfield Guest House
Ranked #32 of 189 Keswick B&B and Inns
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 5 August 2014

All modesty aside, Parkfield House is a lovely and most welcoming B & B, perfectly situated in the highly scenic village of Keswick. Indeed, as run by charming and helpful hosts Susan and John, even the most discriminating travelers would be hard pressed to find fault with this standout accommodation.

Priced at 110 pounds per night, Parkfield House represents good value for money as it offers tidy, modern lodging with an abundance of country house styling. Our two-night stay featured a surprisingly large twin room with very comfortable twin beds, love seat, flat screen TV, coffee service, large closet, and plenty of natural light. Like the room itself, the modern bathroom featured a large shower with contemporary plumbing and plenty of hot water. Also appreciated were numerous thick and thirsty towels complemented by a heated towel rack. All in all, room number four at Parkfield House is nothing short of excellent.

Given there are only six or so rooms on offer at Parkfield House, breakfast is a great opportunity to chat with your fellow travelers. This is not to imply there is communal seating, but rather the intimate and attractive breakfast area invites conversation, and this is enhanced by the fine and ample breakfast selections. For example, co-owner Susan is more than happy to prepare a traditional English breakfast, but if that's not your style, allow us to recommend a tasty serving of eggs over easy, hash browns, baked beans, and fruit salad. Either way, co-owner John works hard in the breakfast area to satisfy all food and drink orders, and it's a friendly and highly efficient affair.

It must also be mentioned Parkfield House is very nicely situated in this most attractive part of England's Lakes District. Peaceful yet ultra-close to all tourist attractions, the B & B is sited directly across from a public golf course while the gentle pleasures of Derwentwater Lake are but a very short stroll beyond. Downtown Keswick, moreover, is a but a couple minutes' stroll, and there are numerous fine restaurants and pubs that beckon the tired traveler. Co-owner John was kind enough the make two dinner reservations for us during our stay, and we were quite pleased with the results.

Finally, don't forget to say hello to the resident German shepherd at Parkfield House, Teddy. He certainly won't be the only happy dog you'll have a chance to greet in this most friendly of dog towns. Come to think, as judged by our stay at the wonderful Parkfield House, the humans are pretty darn agreeable as well.

.

Room Tip: Room number four is especially spacious and attractive.

Great location in Keswick, very close to the lake and also town centre, and the car parking was so useful. John and Susan were perfect hosts, will definitely recommend this B&B to any friends or family heading up to the Lake District. The beds were comfy, rooms well decorated and lovely views. Yummy breakfast too! If we go back to Keswick, without a doubt would stay here again.

John and Susan host the perfect B&B in Keswick. Breakfasts are cooked to order with daily specials. John impeccably serves and gives advice to all as he does so. Cars must be parked in rear which he does for you. As we departed, he had brought our car right to the front door and this was before serving breakfast. Wi-fi works really well from lounge. Once logged in, it remains so. Rooms are comfy and spacious.
John is the ever helpful host. We were headed to golf at Silluth on Solway and concerned about getting lost. He loaded and installed his GPS in the front to assure we made it.
Location is the best, next to Hope Park and very near the boat launch and theater. The town is charming filled with good restaurants , which he will recommend and reserve for you. Best is Morrrels right around the corner from Parkfield. Delicious dinner there.
We drove from Keswick to the more touristy Windemere which while having Peter Rabbit and Wordsworth, lacks the charm of Keswick.
This is a place worth return visits. Thus it is important to reserve months ahead during high season for Parkfield. They have regular guests each season

Thankyou for your great review of parkfield I believe you are quite correct when you say keswick has charm we think it's got lots of charm with its lovely scenery and market place and of course derwentwater itself all add up to make it so .
It really wasn't a problem to sort the sat nav out for your golf trip ! Good that you got there and back safely with no hassle .
Our wifi usually works throughout the entire house with no issues , so it was a shame your phone would only pick it up in our guest lounge , it's always nice when gus
Sets make the most of our superb location near to most of the main attractions and to town theatre and lake all just steps away from the front door .
Hopefully as you love visiting Europe and England we shall see you again and we look forward to wlelcoming you again to parkfield .

This is one of the best places to stay in Keswick. It stands in a beautiful setting looking over the pitch and putt greens then onto the hills behind the lake. The owners are most welcoming and cant do enough to make your stay an enjoyable one. The rooms are in excellent condition and are tastefully decorated to a very high standard. Breakfast is amazing. I can't recommend the Parkfield enough. Just wonderful.

We had one of the best weekends ever last weekend when we stayed at Parkfield.
Owners John and Susan are a wonderful couple and do a fantastic job of looking after their guests in their lovely b&b which is set in a really great quiet location close to Derwent Water that is also just a few minutes easy walk from the centre of Keswick. It's another real plus that they have their own private car park too, so no worries about finding a parking place and no extra fees either! John even parks your car in there for you too on arrival.
We immediately felt at home and were particularly impressed by their friendliness, their attentiveness and that they always called us by name, which can be no mean feat given the constantly changing guest list! The room was great, with a very comfy bed and two sumptuous chairs to relax in and take in the beautiful view (we stayed in one of the superior rooms on the front, overlooking Hope Park and the grandeur of the mountainous scenery just beyond). The food was delicious and very good quality too. We would be delighted to stay with them again anytime. So it is our pleasure to give our sincere thanks to John and Susan for looking after us so well and making our weekend even more of a special treat than we had hoped it would be.

Thankyou for taking the time to write such a lovely review of your weekend stay with us , it's great that it was one of your best weekends ever !!!
We are very happy that you so enjoyed your room and it's stunning views and of course the two large comfortable chairs ! We are as you say very close to the derwentwater lake which is of course beautiful in its own right and to have it just minutes away is a definite bonus for ourselves and of course for all of our guests .
The location of the guest house is commented on many times as most guests can't believe that you can be so close to everything and yet it's so very quiet ! Where we are .
Thankyou for choosing to stay with us , we hope all your plans go really well and enjoy your honeymoon , we look forward to hearing all about it on your next visit to keswick and to parkfield .

Our second stay at a b&b in Keswick and one to which we thoroughly intend to return. John and Susan are the archetypal hosts..helpful, easy going but above all professional and courteous. From the moment john parks your car you know there's nothing to worry about. We had room 2, which is a standard double. Compact, but has everything you need. The bed was very comfy and the wifi was fine..and free. The location couldn't be better, close to the main park, Derwentwater and the market square. Breakfasts are a delight and there's plenty of local info for those who need it.
Thanks john and Susan for helping to make our three days three good ones.

John and Susan are the most friendly and welcoming hosts, always with a ready smile. They know the area so well, and have so many itineraries at their disposal, you can safely book a stay here without bothering to check the travel guides for things to do. Suggest to stick around for at least three days (more is better) to have time to explore the surrounding lakes. You won't be bored if you like the outdoors.

Love the breakfast here, and the lounge, which makes for good sitting if it rains.
