All modesty aside, Parkfield House is a lovely and most welcoming B & B, perfectly situated in the highly scenic village of Keswick. Indeed, as run by charming and helpful hosts Susan and John, even the most discriminating travelers would be hard pressed to find fault with this standout accommodation.
Priced at 110 pounds per night, Parkfield House represents good value for money as it offers tidy, modern lodging with an abundance of country house styling. Our two-night stay featured a surprisingly large twin room with very comfortable twin beds, love seat, flat screen TV, coffee service, large closet, and plenty of natural light. Like the room itself, the modern bathroom featured a large shower with contemporary plumbing and plenty of hot water. Also appreciated were numerous thick and thirsty towels complemented by a heated towel rack. All in all, room number four at Parkfield House is nothing short of excellent.
Given there are only six or so rooms on offer at Parkfield House, breakfast is a great opportunity to chat with your fellow travelers. This is not to imply there is communal seating, but rather the intimate and attractive breakfast area invites conversation, and this is enhanced by the fine and ample breakfast selections. For example, co-owner Susan is more than happy to prepare a traditional English breakfast, but if that's not your style, allow us to recommend a tasty serving of eggs over easy, hash browns, baked beans, and fruit salad. Either way, co-owner John works hard in the breakfast area to satisfy all food and drink orders, and it's a friendly and highly efficient affair.
It must also be mentioned Parkfield House is very nicely situated in this most attractive part of England's Lakes District. Peaceful yet ultra-close to all tourist attractions, the B & B is sited directly across from a public golf course while the gentle pleasures of Derwentwater Lake are but a very short stroll beyond. Downtown Keswick, moreover, is a but a couple minutes' stroll, and there are numerous fine restaurants and pubs that beckon the tired traveler. Co-owner John was kind enough the make two dinner reservations for us during our stay, and we were quite pleased with the results.
Finally, don't forget to say hello to the resident German shepherd at Parkfield House, Teddy. He certainly won't be the only happy dog you'll have a chance to greet in this most friendly of dog towns. Come to think, as judged by our stay at the wonderful Parkfield House, the humans are pretty darn agreeable as well.
