the keswick hotel is good in all respects except one for me and many other older people. this is the lack of support facilities in the bathroom.a couple of grab handles in the bath area to help getting in and out of the shower, would make it accessible.i was unable to use it.
enquires were made at the reception desk and was told that there wre no bathrooms with any facilities for less able bodied guests nor ,any walk in showers.we stayed for two nights.we could not consider staying longer because of this lack of an easily remedied matter.

We have visited the hotel several times now, and have always been happy with the value for money deals that they have. The hotel does need some TLC, and upgrading, that is been done slowly, this time for our 3 night stay we paid for a Junior Suite which was excellent, as it had been refurbished, if that is the standard carry on with the good work. We did pay for dinner bed and breakfast, as always. The food is excellent, tasty, and served well presented. The staff are friendly and willing to help. The hotel is well situated, for walking and shopping, very rare we use the car after our arrival. We enjoy our after dinner stroll, around Fitz park, or down to the town and back.We shall be looking forward to our next visit.

Room Tip: Rooms over looking the garden and the Borrowdale valley are the best, facing south.

Having stayed in this hotel many times during the last 40 years it was lovely to return for a 4 day break with friends to find the weather so fantastic. The restaurant continues to offer excellent tasty, quality and beautifully presented meals. When included in the Dinner, Bed and Breakfast deal it is wonderful value. The hotel is full of character and, yes, parts look a little tired but it is an old hotel and a bit creaky and jaded in parts and when cold at night, as it was, there was a big condensation problem which could cause problems if not regularly and thoroughly cleaned with a mold preventor. Who wants to stay in a modern hotel where every room looks the same. I stayed in 2 rooms and both were serviced well and cosy and warm. The lounge area was rather crowded as it is not a huge room. The radiators are totally controllable. Wine by the glass in the bar is expensive and not great but apart from that I thoroughly enjoyed my four day break and found all the staff helpful and friendly and pillows are there for the asking! I shall certainly be returning again next year.

Room Tip: Top floor rooms although long walk from restaurant but there is a lift.

We have just returned from a 2 night stay with friends and could not have wished for a better time. We booked standard rooms on a dinner, bed and breakfast basis and paid £43 pounds per person per night. The rooms were spotlessly clean and yes in places somewhat tired looking but they had all the facilities you could wish for. There was only one pillow per person but we asked for additional pillows each and they were delivered with a smile minutes later.
We had pre-dinner drinks in the cosy bar, wine by the glass is quite expensive but all other drinks the same price you would pay in the local pubs. The bar staff were friendly and chatty and nothing too much trouble. The dinner menu if you are not staying is £26 per person and I would pay double this price for the standard of food we received. The hotel is a 3 star hotel which produces 5 star food, with 5 star service. All of the restaurant staff were exceptional. Yes they work hard and the same staff are there for breakfast and dinner but there is always a smile for you. We met the the lady manager, stephanie rogers, who meets and greets you on the restaurant door each evening and then chatted to us in the bar later at night. This is a lovely touch and its obvious that she is good at her job and enjoys her job which in turn reflects in her superb staff who also look happy and as though they want to the there. Breakfast is a buffet breakfast and again is superb. Many of the small guest houses charge £40 pppn just for bed and breakfast in Keswick so this hotel is an absolute bargain. A special thanks to Eniko who cleaned our bedroom, to Megan on Reception for answering our hundreds of questions and Maja in the bar for humouring us! A great hotel, we will return, thanks for a brilliant couple of days.

Room Tip: The standards rooms have everything you could wish for. We had rooms 300 and 303.

Beautiful from the outside, a disappointment on the inside.
The whole interior was grubby and tatty and looked like it needed a good clean. The room was very poor - room 300 had bad stains on the carpet, the bed valance was filthy and only one poor quality pillow each. By far the worst thing though was the noise from what sounded like a fog horn going off every few minutes! Think it was the central heating boiler or something like, but kept me awake.
The most off putting this was a rotting bone on the floor by the window in the bar on the first night was still there when we left......
Breakfast was good, though the service was not very good. We didn't use the restaurant otherwise as expensive and the town is just a short walk.
The location is lovely, just a shame the windows in the rooms were so small.
Wouldn't go back - went to the Mary Mount last year and only didn't go back as they have buliding work going on, and that is 2 star but much nicer.

Room Tip: Not 300! Worth paying more for a better room.

Dear Judge866

We obviously failed to meet your expectations during your stay at the Keswick. Although criticism isn't our favourite kind of review, we welcome those that are constructive and allow us to re-address our product and improve where we can.

We follow a continual programme of refurbishment and I will make sure that out maintenance team are made aware of your comments.

We hope you may change you mind and visit us again one day.

Yours sincerely

We held a club walking weekend based on this hotel. The service was excellent and the whole group comment on the standard of the food and the varied menu. We will certainly use the hotel again.

Room Tip: Garden rooms are best

We stayed at the hotel on a one night DB&B. On arrival at the hotel we were rather disappointed as we found the hotel "very tired". The room we stayed in was not cleaned to a high standard as there were cobwebs and the bathroom had mould on the ceiling. The food was well presented and was the highlight of the stay. Ideal location for keswick town centre
