“Great location, super food & best value”
Reviewed 2 July 2012

I booked The keswick Country House Hotel for our Golf Group which has travelled throughout Britain and Ireland on golf breaks staying at some quality rated hotels and none have beaten this hotel for value and the quality of the food included in our package.

Located in parkland close to the lovely town of Keswick it is a quiet location which plenty of parking nearby and within easy access of the main through route. The Hotel is quite large with grand rooms including comfortable bar and lounge and large well furbished restuarant. Service from reception to bar and waiting staff was excellent with the keen young staff always helpful.

Our twin rooms were of a good size, clean and well equipped and with large bathrooms.

Along side the staff the best thing about the hotel was the food in the restaurant and the very good value package offered when booking. Breakfast had a very good choice and options and service was quick which suited us as we had to get away for our appointed tee times. Evening dinners were of a very high standard which a good menu choice, even for vegetarians and the food was very good quality.

We would certainly recommend this hotel.

I have stayed here a few times now and never been disappointed. Stayed in rooms from a junior suite to standard doubles. OK the hotel is a little worn around the edges but this adds character to the old building. Food in the restaurant is excellent. Bar prices are high so be warned. Staff are polite and friendly. Parking isn't usually a problem. Good location only a short walk into the town.

This hotel is hugely over-priced at approximately $290 a night double occupancy. The rooms are shop-worn. Even the public areas are badly in need of being upgraded. Service is mediocre at best. Amazingly, there is no internet service in the guest rooms. The only service is in a very small area in the lobby. One of the few redeeming features is that the fixed-price dinner in the restaurant was quite good; however, breakfast was only average. Nice grounds.

Room Tip: Stay somewhere else.

I booked this hotel via Late Rooms as a weekend away for my wife and myself. We paid £55.00 per person for dinner, bed and breakfast. I then read the mixed reviews on this site and was slighly worried but after staying I ask myself what people actually expect for such good prices. We have previously stayed in bed and breakfasts in Keswick and have paid £45.00 per person for bed and breakfast, no bar and no real service as such, just someone to serve you breakfast and nothing more. The foyer, lounge and bar areas are lovely, cosy and have a warm and friendly feel. Granted the corridors look tired but how much time do you spend in a corridor. We had booked a superior room which was well equipped, TV, tea and coffee, telephone etc etc and a beautiful en-suite bathroom with a shower so powerful. The bedroom was spotlessly clean and Eniko the cleaner was lovely. The service we received from all members of staff was second to none. Joanna on reception was delightul on both arrival and departure. The bar staff without exception were friendly and nothing too much trouble. The restaurant service was VIP for both dinner and breakfast and the staff again exceptional to say the least. You have to book your time for dinner as you would in any restaurant and therefore times can be quite limited but I am sure this helps the exceptional service you receive. The Hotel Management in this establishment are hands on, thank you Stephanie for our lovely table in the restaurant with a view of the gardens to make dinner even more special. The gardens are beautiful, well manicured and obviously cared for. Drinks in the bar are slighty expensive, especially the wines, but hey when you are on holiday who cares. I note a comment on here mentioning an ice bucket and ice were requested and only a plastic container of ice was delivered to the room. Perhaps I am being presumptous in assuming these guests brought their own champagne with them but maybe purchasing the hotels champagne would ensure the staff would deliver it in an ice bucket.
There is ample parking and only a short walk into the town from the hotel.
The only downside, we only stayed 2 nights!
We will certainly be back and would certainly recommend this hotel. Certainly dont expect 4 star luxury, if you want that expect to pay double these prices in the Lakes, but you can expect excellent service, cuisine and the best staff you could wish for.

Room Tip: We booked a superior room and it was perfect for what we wanted

This hotel has such great potential as it is well located, being a short walk to the local village, and the nearby lakes. It s unfortunate the operator has not invested in re-fitting the decor. Eg the carpets in the stair well, lobby and rooms are all different colors and designs, and furniture is tired. The service at reception and in the restaurants are fine, but house keeping needs major improvement. It was obvious that apart from making the bed, nothing else was done including the dusting as my (rare) allergies to dust was so bad I had to pop down to the local chemist for medication to calm my sneezing. On one of the three nights we stayed there we asked for an ice bucket and two glasses to be brought up to the room. The kitchen didn't have any so we were only given a basic plastic container of ice, which did not leave room for the champagne so we had to pop the champage in the bathroom sink and chill it there ....hardly the romantic setting I was planning.

For those intending to try Athe dinner at the restaurant, make sure you book before 6:15pm, and get down before 8:15pm. the kitchen closes at 9pm and the staff were not very accommodating about taking unreserved guests --even if it is pouring outside and the villages restaurants generally close quite early in Keswick too--as we experienced.

Luckily we found a lovely restaurant called Casa Bella which opened kitchen past 9, and we're not snobbish about reservations.

This was my 3rd visit and the standards are just as good. As a coach driver I have stayed in many hotels and guest houses both in the U.K. and Europe. This ranks amongst the best. All my passengers had an enjoyable time and there is already a booking for 2013. The fact that many guests are repeat visitors speaks volumes about the hotel. I spoke with Stephanie, the Manager, and she assured me that rooms were being refurbished but it would take time. I, and I suspect, many others can put up with the fact that the place does need some refreshing but then Rome was not built in a day.

Stayed here 15/16 June to celebrate my wife,s birthday. What a let down . Stopped in room 200 Junior Suite the price did not reflect the condition of the room . Way over priced. Hotel really needs an injection of money and fetching into the 21st century. The evening meal very little choice
but what we had OK (3 course for £26 each).Keswick fantastic but the whole W/E spoiled by the old look of the decor and furniture The hotel is clean but even in the restaurant you could see wallpaper coming away from the walls .Two good comments , the breakfast was gorgeous
and staff are helpful . Would I recommend this Hotel to a friend ? No.

Room Tip: Don't book rooms near 200 ,can hear central heating boiler kicking in all time.
