“A Must Stay for the Lake District”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 September 2013

Words cannot describe the beauty of the hotel and the surrounding grounds. Our room was well appointed and lovely. We walked in to our room and immediately before us were incredible views of the surrounding mountainsides. It is in a fantastic location and the breakfast was amazing. I loved the history of the location and love the Lake District. Nothing was left unthought of for our comfort. Thank You for a wonderful and memorable stay.

We only went to the hotel for dinner, but the food was great. Though the menu was short, we didn't have any problem finding something we liked and when the food arrived the portions were generous, well presented and piping hot.

Situated next to Fitz Park and the Spa swimming pool it is a short, level, 5 minute stroll into the town centre. It is also next door to the Keswick Museum which is a undergoing massive refurbishment at the moment.

The decor is a little dated and the clientele a little mature, but if you are not looking for a cutting edge boutique style hotel, you will be very comfortable here.

Keswick has long since lost its railway line but its old station has provided an interesting and impressive annex to the very imposing old-style Country House Hotel. Location is the main attraction it being within easy walking distance of the town centre yet offering a quiet retreat from the busy tourist centre. Older visitors may recall staying at the youth hostel just across the river in their younger days. The view may be similar from the hotel but needless to say the quality of accommodation is of a very different standard and more suited to those whose days of rugged hill walking are happy memories.

We love this hotel. Comfortable, conveniently situated, excellent food and friendly, helpful staff. We always upgrade and like the rooms at the front on the third floor as, sometimes on the 1st and 2nd floor there can be disturbance if guests in the rooms above have 'heavy feet'. Ring before you go to book a table for dinner as, if the hotel is full (and it usually is!) you may be offered a later time slot than you would wish. There's no problem about leaving the car in the car park after you've checked out of your room so even on your last day you can have a full day walking or sightseeing without having to use the car. Keswick has an excellent bus service and the timetables can be relied on.

Room Tip: pay the small extra charge for a front or side facing room.

This was the third time we were at the Keswick this year. We have been many times in years gone past. As usual the welcome was superb, our room very clean and comfortable and the food was excellent. Dinner offers a wide choice of starters and the mains have something for everyone with roast, game, fish and a vegetarian option all represented. The wine list is comprehensive. The staff are all very friendly and competent. Keswick is a great town to visit with good shops and cafes for a break. There are varied walks easily accessible from the hotel ranging from round the lake (with the chance of a boat to ease the feet!) to the more challenging Cats Bells. The market is great and we learned that it is on on Thursdays as well as Saturdays. All in all the Keswick Country House Hotel is a great place for a Lake District break. I don't think you could go wrong.

Room Tip: Ask for a room over the garden.

Once again a lovely break at the Keswick. Room and food excellent as ever. We visited the Theatre by the Lake and took a trip around the lake which made for a really peaceful break. We've been going to the same hotel for 20 years and can't see any reason to change.

Room Tip: Never had a bad room in 20 years!

We loved this Hotel. If you like laid back slightly creaky cosy comfort as we do then this is it with bells on !!!
Hadn't been to North Lakes for many years and journeyed from Blackpool to meet up with family from North-East. The staff were friendly and good fun and many had been there for years together and so were obviously happy and the atmosphere was indicative of that. Breakfast was great with a (really fresh ) fruit salad to die for and rarely found on breakfast buffet tables these days. Dinner was equally good and we all chose different things so we could sample each others and we seldom have desserts but none of us could resist. Really excellent - well done Chef
Loved the close proximity to Keswick but also easy springboard to surrounding delights Didn't want to come home.

Room Tip: Suites were lovely 202 delightful. We were in double which very comfy and we all slept like tops bot...
