“Lovely Weekend Break”
Reviewed 7 August 2014

Have just spent a three night break in this lovely old hotel which is very much part of Keswick's history, situated on the site of the old Railway Station next to the leisure centre within walking distance of parks, town centre shops and Derwent Water.Ideal base for ardent walkers as well as less active visitors wanting to spend some time in the Beautiful Lake District and be well catered for with a touch of luxury and excellent food ! The buffet breakfasts offer lots of choices of both cold and hot food. The evening meals offer a varied and different dining experience prepared and served by the excellent hotel staff. All meals are served in a Beautiful dining room overlooking the lovely gardens. We were in a standard room with a double and single bed it was well furnished, exceptionally clean with a large bathroom.Towels were white fluffy and a good size all bed linen well laundered. We often stay in The Patterdale Hotel and have not stayed here before.I have no problem recommending the Country House to other guest and are looking forward to coming back in the future

Just back from a two night stay. Hotel is situated about a ten minute walk from town centre in a quiet location away from traffic noise. Staff were extremely polite anf efficient although it can be problematic getting served at the bar mid afternoon. Food is extremely good and cooked to perfection. Breakfast is buffet service with plenty of choice and piping hot. The building is over a hundred years old and has many features of a bygone age. The acid test is always to ask yourself if you would go back and to that question I would certainly answer yes.

We have been to the Keswick Country House Hotel a number of times and have always been treated well. Because my wife uses a wheelchair we stay on the ground floor of the Station annexe. We notify the reception on booking of her difficulty walking and they couldn't be more helpfully. The restaurant staff always keep a table near the door for us, the reception staff also help wherever they can. They are very attentive without being intrusive. The rooms are kept very clean and tasteful, and there is always everything we need. I would recommend this Hotel to anyone.

Room Tip: There is free wifi but only in certain areas.

The Keswick Country House definitely has an old fashioned feel to it, but in a nice way. The building itself is old and attractive. Entering the lobby, we had some doubts, as the place felt a bit run down, but later we started to like it as part of the traditional hotel experience. Fortunately our Superior room was refurbished, large, clean and very nice.

The dinner, which was included in the room rate, was a highlight. It's served in a classical & grand dining hall, with a view to the lush green lawn in front of it. The service is friendly and professional. The 3 course menu featured modern British food and included a choice of a few dishes for each course. The food exceeded our expectations and should easily be among the best in Keswick.

The British breakfast was nice too. All in all we thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this classical, old school hotel, where you feel transferred back in time to a grand hotel 50 years ago. On top, we found it an excellent value.

Great place to stay in Keswick, quite central for the town and fells. Staff are very helpful and the breakfast is second to none!!! Such a choice of every thing. Some rooms are in need of a refurb but every year we visit they have upgraded some more of the hotel. Good value for money.

Really enjoyed my visit here. Hotel is wonderfully positioned, just a little away from Keswick centre. it is surrounded by lovely grounds, with rabbits gambolling on the lawn. Green open parks are nearby too. A fifteen minute walk to derwent water at most, and bus stop is nearby if needed. Exterior of hotel is v. attractive, and our room on the second floor was large, clean, and had everything needed. Bed was very comfortable, and slept very well. Staff are extremely professional and knowledgeable; check in and out was very easy; staff at mealtimes were super efficient and unobtrusive. Loved the food too, both evening meal and breakfast. Breakfast was buffet style, and couldn't fault it. nice little bar for drinks in evening, an attractive lounge was there also. For price we paid for 2 nights dbb, would absolutely return again.

We have just returned from a 3 night stay here and generally overall, had a lovely stay; unfortunately we were subject to 3 continuous days of rain throughout the Lakes (of course, nothing to do with the Hotel)
We arrived early and were checked in although our room wasn't ready so came back later on. Celebrating our 1st wedding anniversary we had noted this on our reservation and also paid for a bottle of Champagne, which was in our room - the disappointing part of this was that at no point during our stay did any member of staff acknowledge this celebration for us :-(
The room was lovely, a stunning bay window outlooking the corner of the car park and gardens, and in clear weather the fells too. Room was spacious, clean and had everything we needed, although was very hot as could not open windows, a fan was happily supplied though.
The bar is a nice area and staff are welcoming, prices are very reasonable for a hotel and no grumbles here.
We had paid for a dinner inclusive package and it was a nice change to see a different 3 course menu option every night; the problem here came that each of the main courses, were far too big and also seemed to be mismatched and have far too many different elements on the plate making each dish quite "confused". The restaurant was exceptionally hot and stuffy too, particularly on the weekend nights when it was busy, again no windows opened.
The Chairs in the restaurant are very uncomfortable though and strangely too high for the tables in some cases, with the tables for 2 being very narrow, it didn't exactly make for a comfortable dining experience.
Coming from a Hotel background myself, I just expected a little bit more of the "extra mile" from staff, one evening I was feeling quite ill and asked Reception to send some bottles of water to my room, I was directed to ask for this myself at the Bar.... are my expectations too high to think this could have been arranged for me?!
Overall a nice stay and no major complaints, just no wow factor.... the main disappointment lying in the lack of acknowledgement of our special occasion.

Room Tip: Pay for the upgrade to a stunning view
