“Nice hotel.... if you don't need sleep”
Reviewed 27 August 2014

Travelled here over the bank holiday weekend with a group of friends, lovely building, easy to find with spacious rooms. Very friendly, welcoming and accommodating staff from check-in to breakfast to the bar. Excellent showers - which is just what you need after a days walking in the area.

Unfortunately, the beds (all 7 of them) were terrible. The entire group were lacking sleep ny the end of our stay. The packed lunches we pre-ordered although convenient and reasonably priced were below average.

The mini golf outside the hotel was a pleasant surprise.

Overall - the hotel has the potential to be lovely but until they start ordering beds from a sensible place instead of a car boot sale, all visitors will suffer!

Stayed here several times on fell walking holidays. Upgraded room...spacious and well appointed. Food very good as usual, served by efficient and friendly staff. Very well located...we will be back. WiFi on the ground floor, not in rooms

We have stayed here on many occasions and are always happy to come back. Even the standard rooms are quite spacious and the food is very good with a choice of about five dishes for each course. We are keen walkers and the hotel, being originally the Station Hotel in Victorian times, is located at the start of an excellent trail, suitable for all ages and abilities.

Room Tip: We always have a standard room and have never had a problem - there is a lift anyway for people who...

It rained, it poured but the hotel made up for it. Great room and superb food and a really comfy lounge. We can't wait to go back and who knows the sun might shine next time. The staff make you feel special.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view.

The room at first looked good until you took a good look, dirty windows inside, dirty curtains, dead flys on windowsills, dirty mirrors dust on bed head bathroom sink taps needed scrubbing at base , mould and dampness above windows also on net curtains windows absolutely filthy inside. Hotel needs a lot of attention in repairs and decoration. Food was good bur had to wait a very long time between courses. Don't like the idea of breadbuns on table waiting for you, they could of been there from 6 o'clock whee your meal was booked for 9, not good for me. Staff ok but that was it, won't be going back

We stayed 2 nights here and we liked it very much. I agree with some of the reviews of the decor being a bit old, but I think that is part of the charm. The rooms were very clean and the bathrooms spotless. I say rooms because we switched to another room for the second night. Our first room was fine until guests went out to have a cigarette and the favorite smoking spot was right under our window. We had the window open just an inch or so and the smell came right in and we could hear people laughing, talking, coughing right under the window up to 11:00 at night and then starting at 7:00 in the morning. It was awful and I felt bad complaining since we only had one more night, but I just couldn't stand it. The front desk was so nice and moved us no problem and because the hotel was very full, she upgraded us to a nicer room with a beautiful view. It was great. They really need to deal with the "smoking area" at the front of the hotel. We had breakfast and dinner there and the food was very good. We felt a little rushed at dinner - the food came out too fast, but being a busy hotel, I guess they wanted to keep things moving. It was a simple walk to town, maybe 5 to 10 minutes with a nice park close by. Very nice people, also plenty of parking which is hard to find at European hotels. I would stay again, but not in room 107.

Room Tip: Avoid room 107, people smoke under the window.
