This was our 2nd visit & this time we took along our little dog... We loved it & he was also made very much welcome, which made it even more enjoyable for us. Staff were friendly & attentive , breakfast was excellent as last time:) ... This visit we had afternoon tea in the lounge which was very indulgent, very relaxing with excellent service. We didn't want the weekend to end... There is some noise due to its location but don't let this put you off, have a few glasses of wine & use the ear plugs they happily supply. Heard one older guest complaining very loudly to anyone who would listen in the breakfast room about how noisy it was & that the food was poor! This is nonsense .. This fell on deaf ears & rolling eyes of other guests. I then had the misfortune of being behind her at checkout time... She was handled in a very professional & polite manner by the receptionist. This place is a gem :) & will defo go back.

Dear Pidge7475

Thank you for once again taking the time to review your recent stay with us. I am very glad that you have also enjoyed your stay with us this time and had the opportunity to bring your little doggy too. He seemed to enjoy his stay and judging by the photos he quite liked the view, although from that angle it only showed the back gardens of the houses next door rather than Catbells or Skiddaw. We look forward to your next visit, soon hopefully.

Kind regards

Neels

My wife and I took a short break through Secret Escapes. The only criticism is that the furniture in our room was a bit tired. We had a room at the back of the hotel so no problem with noise. I suspect being on the Secret Escapes rate we did not get the best room, but it was clean, had a great king size bed and an en suite with a proper shower in the bath. The staff were very friendly and did their best to make our stay as enjoyable as they could.
The food was excellent with plenty of choice on the set menu.
We will certainly be considering staying here again next year.
I was very surprised by the reviewer that only gave the hotel one star in August, so much so I was prompted to join Trip Advisor to put the record straight!

Room Tip: Rooms at the back are quieter. Not surprising as the hotel is on the Main Street!

My partner and I have just returned to Cambridgeshire following our first trip away together. We took the near 250 mile trip to Keswick and spent 2 nights in the Skiddaw Hotel, booked through Secret Escapes, and we could not have been more impressed if we had tried. What we knew from this website was that there were mixed reviews, which I simply dismissed negatives as picky guests. What we came across upon getting to the hotel was amazing. All the front of house staff were polite and welcoming, housekeeping staff were all well mannered, and kitchen staff... well they couldn't have been more helpful. We were treated as though we were guests in a 5 star hotel, and being so far away from our home we couldn't have been made to feel more welcome. I would definitely return to Keswick anyway, but our experience with the Skiddaw hotel has given us somewhere we would look into recommending to others and using again. Can I also point out that your kitchen staff and front of house staff were always in high spirits and well mannered, very well greeted by Karolina, Rob and everyone else... couldn't remember all of the names. But thank you for making the long journey to Keswick worth every minute!

Had two nights dinner bed and breakfast over this bank holiday weekend. It was excellent value for money and was an extremely comfortable hotel. Our breakfast was very fresh and served on hot plates. The dinner was first class. Our room was at the back of the hotel and we slept soundly both nights though enjoyed the entertainment in the hotel and surrounding pubs. Don't expect a5star hotel but a clean comfortable and friendly superior 3star establishment

Room Tip: Room 61 at the rear of hotel quiet with comfy bed and great shower

I received a secret escape as a birthday gift a couple of weeks ago, the hotel is located in the centre of Keswick so it's handy for the market and the market noise, they readily take dogs and the staff are the nicest most helpful you could wish for, we had breakfast and a three course dinner included and the food was fantastic, parking was situated in a public car park at the back of the hotel and you are provided with a free parking ticket for the duration of your stay. With a car you are ideally situated for the lakes and walks or climbs or whatever other outdoor activities float your boat, all in all a great short break.

Room Tip: Town centre and market noise at the front of the hotel, so the back would be my choice if I went aga...

We booked through secret escapes and weren't sure what to expect after reading some reviews on here.

When we arrived we were pleasantly surprised, the parking (public carpark) was directly behind the hotel and very easy to find. Parking is also free courtesy of the permit provided by reception.

All staff from reception to the bar, the restaurant to house keeping, and anyone in between were very polite and helpful. Our room turned out to be the top floor suite, two bedrooms for the price of one ha ha! Decor was good if a little dated, but rooms were clean, tidy and comfortable.

Despite being situated in the centre of town, we heard very little noise from the street below either during the day or night unlike a few reviews on here. There was also no noise from surrounding rooms.

Food was great with a different 4 course menu each day, and breakfast was lovely.

The only thing we could pick up on about this hotel was the age range of people staying there seemed 50+, which isn't a negative, however we were practically the only younger people there.

That said, we couldnt fault the hotel, service, or anything really and would definitely not hesitate to return. Thanks Skiddaw for a lovely stay!
