We booked a 2 night stay 28th Mar and advised that we were an elderly couple who would like a twin and near to a lift, The only one suitable we would have to upgrade.and were told it was on the first floor and there was a lift. We just could not believe it, room 53 , over 20 stairs numerous fire doors and long corridors. We were unable to change as the hotel was full
We went to dinner on the Friday and were reprimanded for not booking a table she said she would find us something so we booked a table for the Saturday and asked for the same table . When we arrived a couple were sitting at the table and we were shown to a table that had couch seats we explained that we needed a chair due to back problems. He said there was no need to reserve a table so what was that all about?
We were out all day Saturday and returned just after 3pm, after the marathon to the room we found that it had not been cleaned not wanting to make the journey back to reception , we made the beds my husband went to have a bath and I was asleep on the bed when about 4pm , they came to clean the room , they left some more milk and that was it.
On the good side the staff were very friendly the hotel clean and the room good and the food very nice . It was just a case we were worn out after 3 days of back and forth to this room .

Room Tip: if they offer you a room with a high number -be very fit

My wife and I along with our Daughter visited the Skiddaw Hotel for 2nights.
We were allocated rooms 14 and number 2, these were both classed as standard rooms.
Whilst they have not yet been refurbished they are very clean and reasonably furnished, room 14 was without doubt the better room, it was of a good size with double aspect windows overlooking the car park and the fells beyond. The bathroom has a corner bath with shower over it and the built in basin is set in a long unit affording plenty of surface space.
Room 2 is smaller in size but has a Big bathroom with normal type bath and shower over it, there are no shelfs to put toiletries on apart from the tiled part behind the bath. The view is Non Existant for the room is marked as the Fire exit, yes the window is a full size door that leads onto the Fire escape stairs outside. I could not fathom out how, if there was a fire, people could open the door in order to run through the bedroom to the fire escape.
The evening meal and Breakfast's were of good quality and overall the hotel is well worth it's 3Stars.
Will we return, you bet we will!

I have always wanted to stay at the Skiddaw Hotel and finally got a surprise birthday trip there in March .
This is a traditional 'walkers' hotel with a nice feel and comfortable , well furnished modern en suite rooms.
Situated in the centre of Keswick there is always a pleasant buzz around the conservatory bar which faces the market place.
The food in the Hotel is excellent with generous portions which are most welcome after a days walking.
The staff are very pleasant, attentive and helpful which further enhanced our stay.
We were so pleased that Marcus who worked in the restraunt remembered I had soya milk for my tea and porridge in the mornings, because you can often feel awkward having to remind people.this was a nice touch.
This Hotel is owned by the excellent Lake District Hotels group which also owns the Inn on the Lake and the Lodore falls ,also excellent hotels in which we have stayed!
I would have no hesitation in staying here again we had a very special stay.

We have just returned from a short stay at this hotel.from entering to leaving the Skiddaw we were treat like royalty. The friendliness, efficiency and warmth of the staff is on a par with the high quality of the food. Nothing is a problem at the Skiddaw so give it a try you will love it! Lakeland at its best without a doubt.

Stayed for one night to enable us to visit family locally, rooms are ok and functional, but for us the staff made our stay, they were so friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble, and we would stay again because of this.

This is one of the best hotels we have stayed at, and what makes the stay unique is the staff, always happy and helpfull, and the food is excellent and the wine even better, we had a great time and will be back .

Just returned from a mid week break at the Skiddaw. Have stayed here a few times. Excellent stay as always. Upgraded to a superior room FOC. Lovely cosy bedroom and modern bathroom. Complimentary hot pims and crumpets on arrival. Breakfast excellent. Very varied menu each evening for dinner. Staff friendly. Usually stay at the weekend when Keswick epecially is very busy. Missed the Saturday morning market. The rest of the lakes was very quiet too which meant we could drive around and discover places we've never been to before. Had a lovely relaxing time.
