My husband and I recently stayed at Glendale for one night when visiting Keswick Beer Festival. The house is perfectly situated just a short walk from Keswick town centre but in a peaceful and quiet area. Martin welcomed us and showed us to our room; we stayed in room 1, a large, light and comfortable double room on the first floor. This room doesn't have its own en-suite but it does have an adjoining private bathroom which is spacious, nicely decorated and has both a bath and shower. In fact we preferred it to having a smaller en-suite! We did have a sink in the room, however. The modern decor and cleanliness of the room, bathroom and house generally was in stark contrast to many other B&Bs. Martin chatted to us about the beer festival and gave us some tips (we were pleased to note that Glendale sponsored a barrel which turned out to be a big hit with our group!).

Breakfast the following morning was delicious; I enjoyed the fresh fruit, berry compote and yoghurt and there is a good choice of cereals etc also. Gilly's full English was gratefully received although I'd have liked a slice of black pudding in there to complete the plate (perhaps that's just greediness though). Overall, we had a brief but very pleasant stay and would love to return, hopefully next time with our little boy so he can enjoy some Lake District hospitality himself!

Room Tip: Room 1 is a good size and the private bathroom just next door is great.

We stayed here for 2 nights in a superior room on the top floor. Nice large sash window with a lovely view. Quiet road which we never struggled for parking on.

Room was very well decorated, modern, good condition. Bed was lovely.

Room was ensuite with a very well thought out bathroom. Toiletries were good quality and soap was made by a local firm that was lovely.

The owners Martin and Gilly were very friendly and made us feel very welcome.

Breakfast was the highlight of the stay. Very good quality breakfast although not a complaint, i found the sausage to be under seasoned but very good quality all the same. My wife had the croissants and loved them. Especially the marmalade!

Overall a very good stay! No complaints and would thoroughly recommend to anyone.

We stayed here recently and found the hosts (and breakfast) to be above average. We were glad we were there for a few days in the lakes - there is plenty of hiking, and the proprietors have maps you can borrow and good advice on what to do. Our room was comfortable and very well put together; everything in the house has been modernized so no worries about old plumbing or saggy furniture.

Room Tip: The room that can be a twin or a double (#1) is quite large; other than having to walk out of the room to an adjacent private bath (it's not en suite) it seems like the best choice.

The guest house is really well located for attending events in Keswick or the surrounding area. It is only a few minutes walk from the town or local park. The hosts, Martin and Gilly, were very attentive to any dietary requests for breakfast. The room we had was very clean and well provisioned in tea/coffee etc. I would strongly recommend this guest house to fellow runners.

After three weeks in various B&Bs, we have found one of the best. Our hosts, Martin & Gilly were so welcoming and provided heaps of information. The rooms were spotless and beautifully decorated - Gilly even made all the curtains. The table linen at breakfast was immaculate and the breakfast was wonderful. Thank you both for looking after us so well.
