“The Old Chapel was a fantastic find for a family birthday in the Lake District.”
Reviewed 12 May 2015 for a stay in May 2015

We had a lovely weekend to celebrate a family birthday in the Old Chapel. On arrival we were made to feel very welcome with some homemade biscuits and wine from Rebecca and the fire was already lit which made it very cosy. This was a wonderful find in the North Lakes, it has everything you could possibly want and we loved the log burner which makes the chapel so warm. There is a pub and tea rooms in the next village (we ate at Mae's on the Saturday evening which was very nice)
We will definitely return again.

“What a find!!”
Reviewed 5 May 2015 for a stay in May 2015

I took Mum here who is 86 , in a wheelchair and lives in a residential home as she requires that level of care. It was quite a risk taking her, but I neednt have worried. I chose the option of buying in a local carer , who was superb . The Chapel is luxuriously large and beautifully finished , level acess , wet room etc etc . My only worry was if Mum had a fall as I cannot lift her , but you would only need to knock on a couple of doors for help. Mum loved it and we shall definately return .

“Highly recommended.”

The Old Chapel was like home from home for me, my mum & 3 sisters. We had everything we needed for our weekend. The chapel was spotless on arrival, the kitchen was very well equipped, we cooked a roast chicken dinner & did some baking on our 1st night.
The living room was spacious yet cosy, the stove fire was amazing. WIFI strength was good but we had no phone reception at all.
The village is very quiet & peaceful. We were disappointed that the local pub was closed & had been for 18 months. we walked 1.5 miles to a pub in the next village & that was closed too. Luckily we found Mae's Tea room which was fully licensed & the carrot cake was lovely.
Over all we had a very enjoyable weekend & we would return for a second visit.

“Luxurious and cosy accommodation”

This is first rate accommodation. The showers and beds are excellent. Guests should come prepared with supplies as the nearest shop is miles away.

“lovely, quiet place suiting disbility and with carers organised”

We travelled with my elderly mother who has dementia and reduced physical mobility. She loved her downstairs shower room and bedroom as well as the rise and recline chair in the lounge. We loved the wood fire which made the lounge so welcoming and all the facilities were great, and we loved our bedroom with en-suite (with double bath and large shower)

We made full use of all the extras offered. I had a long tiring drive to get there, so requested a meal to warm up when we arrived, which was so welcome.

We also asked you to arrange carers to come and support Mum and that worked wonderfully to help us all to have a holiday. The carers (Saving Grace) were fantastic, and all the arrangements worked so smoothly, Thank you.

The location, while secluded, was not far from Bassenthwaite water and Keswick. We also visited Maryport, Lake Windermere and toured a lot along the edge of lakes and among the mountains (or large hills).

we did not make use of all the games and DVDs available, but appreciated the fact they were there, and we had no children with us, but there was lots for children to do

I would highly recommend the Old Chapel for any family, but if you have anyone with additional needs it is excellent

“A fabulous and well-equipped cottage”
Reviewed 5 January 2015 for a stay in December 2014

We spent Christmas week at the Old Chapel in Ireby and had a wonderful time. The cottage is beautifully presented and had been decorated for Christmas. It is quiet and peaceful and we had everything we needed to cook Christmas dinner. The owner Rebecca has very helpful and made sure that we were reunited with the Christmas presents we managed to leave behind. The cottage is ideally positioned for the lakes and there are great local amenities in Wigton, Carlisle and Cockermouth.
