“A tranquil hideaway”

We have stayed in Keswick many times, and found that this apartment compared very favourably. It is in an excellent location for enjoying Keswick's attractions but once you shut the door it is a peaceful place to stay. Whilst I agree that it is compact, the lounge, bedroom and bathroom were all larger than I anticipated. It is pleasantly furnished and well equipped with everything you need for a week away . The wifi was great and the proximity of parking a real bonus. The view is splendid. Also, the owner had EXCELLENT taste in football teams! We would definitely stay here again.

“Fantastic flat in a superb location”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 July 2014 for a stay in July 2014

This is the first time I have booked a holiday rental through Trip Advisor and I'll admit I was a little uncertain at first. However, the process was very simple and the communications I received from the property's manager were excellent.

High Spy is a wonderful little flat in a superb location - virtually in the centre of Keswick and very close to the lake and all the town's excellent pubs, restaurants and shops.

As a previous reviewer has mentioned, it's a top floor flat and access is gained by climbing four flights of an exterior staircase. From the outside the flat looks uninspiring, but this is very much a case of not judging a book by its cover! Once at the top of the stairs the views are wonderful - from the doorway you can see across to Walla Crag and round to Cat Bells, and then from the bedroom round from Grisedale Pike to Skiddaw. Simply beautiful.

The flat itself is modern, clean and very well equipped indeed, including a washing machine, microwave, iron/ironing board, TV in the bedroom, large widescreen TV with Sky, a DVD player, X-Box, music system etc. in the living room. There is also a large bookcase filled with books, DVDs etc. Not that we had time to read any of the books, but just having them there made it feel like home to book lovers such as us! The flat has its own wifi which worked very well and was very speedy.

The flat has its own dedicated parking space in a small car park round the corner. This is easy to access, in a quiet location and the position of High Spy's allotted space means that your car is visible from the living room window. We really appreciated this.

There are lots of places to eat and drink very close by, and the ground floor of the building has an Italian restaurant which we dined in one evening and enjoyed very much. Across the road is a café bar which is busy every night and sometimes has live music sessions. This can create a bit of noise late into the evening, but the sound proofing of the flat's double glazing cuts out the noise very efficiently and we weren't troubled by this at all. The flat itself must be well sound-proofed all round, as we never once heard any noise from other residents of the building. I had thought that climbing up and down all those stairs every day might be a bit of a drudge, particularly after a long walk. However, even after a whole day climbing mountains and walking up to 15 miles and returning with sore feet and aching limbs, it was no problem at all, and so worth it to have such gorgeous views.

We felt at home from the moment we first stepped into High Spy and I was very sad when the time came to leave. I will definitely stay here again. In fact, I can't wait!

“Wonderful Apartment with views”

This was the second time we have stayed at this lovely apartment and we weren't disappointed. It has everything you could possibly want for a holiday in Keswick. It doesn't look very special from the outside and granted the 60 or so steps look a bit daunting , but it's well worth it. The apartment is compact but has everything you will need and is very clean and modern. Within walking distance of the lake you can park your car and leave it there all week as plenty of waks around Keswick without venturing further a field. The apartment is near all the pubs and restaurants but the fully functional kitchen means after a long day walking you can stay in with a glass of wine, sitting on the small terrace overlooking catbells (best view in Keswick!) or if its chilly, sitting on the comfy leather sofa watching a DVD on the extremely large telly!
I can't recommend this apartment highly enough for couples who just want to chill and we will be returning hopefully for a third time next year.
