“Fantastic stay”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 May 2014 via mobile

I am writing my review now even though we are not leaving until tommorrow! This has to be without a doubt the best campsite in The Lakes - we wouldn't go anywhere else. We have previously stayed here in either a motorhome or tent but have just had our first week in a camping pod & have loved every minute. So peaceful & quiet - we've spent each evening sitting on our decked area watching the rabbits & robins & even had a couple of ducks eating out of our hands! Mixed weather, complete with an awesome thunderstorm one night, but mostly warm & dry. Although there's only one shower for this area it was always lovely & hot, but we also made use of the others - the tent field one is especially lovely. We can't fault this site in any way & reccommend it as much as we can & we most certainly will be booking camping pod 2 for the same time next year! We think it has the best view. We'll be going home sad tommorrow!

Dear Guest, It is with great pleasure to hear you have (and indeed are) enjoying your stay here at Castlerigg Hall Caravan and Camping Park. I'm delighted to learn that this isn't your first visit and you have stayed with us previously.

The wildlife on the park is flourishing, in part, down to our conservation management as we plant and create new habitats each year.

Pod 2 certainly does have the best view with a glimpse of the lake whilst the others have views of the felltops.

The lightening storm was amazing! It's not often we get storms like that one but it was spectacular as it moved across the valley.

Thank you for your lovely comments and we look forward to seeing you again.

Yours Sincerely

Mr David Jackson

Just got back today, had to write this review as we were so impressed with the site, we have been to many sites but this is the best by far, stunning views, fantastic staff really helpful information about the site and the area. Shower block toilets cleanest I have ever experienced. Shop fantastic, staff went out of their way to accommodate us on a very busy weekend. We had 2 pitches for two nights but we were in a campervan so was really easy for us and so appreciated them fitting us in. Amazing views. Didn't want to come home, Icried when we left!!!
usually looking forward to going home. Didn't eat in the restaurant but heard lots of very good comments will be back and will dine there!. Thank you so much to everybody involved in the running of the site you work so hard and we really appreciate it.

Dear Guests, may I take this opportunity to thank you for such lovely comments which are appreciated by everyone here at Castlerigg Hall Caravan and Camping Park.

I'm delighted to hear we were able to help with planning where to visit whilst here.

I shall pass on your remarks about the toilets to our existing and new cleaner who have all been taking a great pride in the appearance of our amenities. We have just been putting flowers in these and are now currently preparing the bedding plants for display around the park.

We have been increasing the range of goods in the shop including gifts and we can now offer an exclusive range of wines in addition to the usual ones and a new range of local micro brewery ales.

Thank you again for your post and we hope to see you again soon.

Yours Sincerely

Mr D Jackson

This is an amazing campsite, the views are spectacular and the staff very friendly. The restaurant is reasonably priced and the food is very nice. We enjoyed a pleasant walk into Keswick and back, all in all a perfect little break.

This was my first stay on a campsite with our touring caravan. The site was easy to book online with all relevant information including choosing an appropriate plot on the website.
We travelled from sunderland, the campsite was easy to find and the staff were so very helpful on arrival.
The lady at reception pointed out all the facilities on a detailed map and which way to walk into keswick town which takes approx 20 minutes, (coming back be warned it is uphill!)
Our plot was at the bottom of the site which was quiet ideal for our first experience of caravanning and especially good for our puppy as it was next to the dog fenced off area!
The plots were spacious which gave privacy and an area to sit outside and take in lake and hill views!
The showers and toilets were easily accessible and always clean.
A handy shop, restaurant and pub next door made the site more appealing and worth the £30 per night fees.
The barriers at the entrance made me feel safe knowing only guests could access the site.
Wifi was also an added bonus!
The best thing about the trip was definitely the location good access to a lot of walking routes from the site meaning not having to drive as much!
We would definitely stay at castlerigg hall campsite again in the near future and recommend it to our family and friends!
Thanks for an amazing stay!

Dear Guest, I am delighted to hear you have had such an enjoyable stay with us and thank you for spending valuable time posting your review.

We have just installed the WiFi this year, and like yourselves our guests are generally very happy with this free service which is suitable for browsing and emails. Unfortunately due to our countryside location and limited connection it is unsuitable for watching films or downloading.

I'm delighted you enjoyed the lower terraces which do involve an uphill walk to the amenities but offer more seclusion and also provide the opportunity to spot one of the Red Squirrels which we feed in the nearby wood.

The area we provide for dogs isn't large but provides somewhere for guests dogs to go before setting off for a walk and I'm pleased this was useful to you.

We look forward to welcoming you all to our park again.

Kind regards

Mr David Jackson

My family & I stayed for one night in a motorhome on our way up to Scotland during the Easter holidays. Having experienced a number of different caravan parks over the years we found this would rank very highly as a beautiful location with friendly staff. The park was spotlessly clean & the facilities were modern & well kept. This isn't the cheapest park around but you get what you pay for. The only small niggle which was really annoying was that the shower water timer was a matter of seconds. Whilst I've experienced water saving features at a number of other sites & understand why they are implemented this timer was the shortest I've ever come accross & really spoilt an otherwise nice hot shower as I had to keep pressing the button all the time. Other than that a lovely site, one which we would return to in the future.

Dear Guest, may I thank you for your positive feedback following your recent stay with us.

I shall pass on your comments to our staff who are working hard to ensure visitors have an enjoyable stay.

As you correctly point out some of the push button showers have a short timer. We have discovered this is factory set and we are unable to adjust these. However we feel it is important that this matter is resolved and plan to remove these next winter and install a different type which will hopefully overcome this issue.

We hope you enjoyed your motorhome tour up to Scotland and consider us again should you be touring in this area in the future.

Kind regards

Mr David Jackson

We have just had a wonderful evening staying in one of the camping pods on the site. Weather was on our side and we managed to sit outside the pod until about 9.45pm when it got a little chilly but the pod was big enough (family pod) for two adults and a dog to have the beds up and chairs inside where it was warm and snuggly.

The toilet block for the pods is sufficient but no pot washing facilities, however if you don't mind walking over to the Tent field (had to go there to wash the breakfast dishes) you will find fantastic showers and toilets, wish I had seen them before morning shower in our block as the one shower was cold as the windows were open and the shower curtain stuck to you, but the water was nice and hot. As you pay more for the pods it would be nice if they had nicer showers.

The only thing that spoiled the one night we had was that one of the camp gentlemen came to start to erect the last Pod (as it seems is being marketed for the following Bank Holiday weekend) before 9am. We were up, but were just about to enjoy a quiet peaceful breakfast. The van was back and forth and our deck was even measured at one point whilst we were trying to eat our breakfast. The gentleman was pleasant but it did put a damper on things. Had he have waited just another hour my score would have been an EXCELLENT, but obviously the lure of extra customers the following weekend was too much for the already paying guests there at the time.

Dear Guest , thank you for providing valuable feedback on your recent stay. I'm delighted to hear you enjoyed your stay.

I must apologise if you were disturbed whilst we set out the wooden supports for the arrival of the camping pod later in the day. We were careful not to use any power tools (only a handsaw) as it was 8.30am and we tried to keep the use the site service van to an absolute minimum. The pod arrival was scheduled for early afternoon during changeover and unfortunately it was necessary to have it delivered this month as we had guests scheduled to arrive who had booked some time ago.

We try to do as much work as we can during the winter months, however for a pod delivery we do need dry hard ground conditions due to the weight of the delivery-wagon+pod.

We accept the smaller toilet building isn't to the same standard as the other two buildings we offer and are hoping to seek planning approval to improve the showers and schedule the work for the forthcoming winter.

As you correctly point out guests are free to use the alternative buildings, one of which has underfloor heating and both have indoor pot washing facilities.

Thank you again for your feedback and I hope you consider staying with us again.

Kind regards

We have just visited this lovely site which is located overlooking Derwent Water in Keswick. The facilities are excellent and there is also a very good restaurant on site serving tasty meals at fair prices. The staff are very welcoming and extremely helpful always being prepared to offer advice on local walks and interesting places to visit in the local area. There are many excellent walks from the site and it is an easy stroll into town, albeit slightly more strenuous uphill on the way back. The shop on site is well stocked and all the facilities are very modern, clean and well kept.

Dear guest, thank you for taking time to review our park. I'm very happy to hear you have had an enjoyable stay.

I'm pleased to hear you were given good advice on the many scenic walks available from our park and that you enjoyed the facilities we have on offer here at Castlerigg Hall.

You are quite correct that the walk back up from Keswick is a bit more strenuous but still enjoyable. For guests who don't wish to walk back we recommend the 555 bus service which drops off close to our park or a taxi from the town centre.

We hope to welcome you again to our area in the future.

Kind regards
