Clean friendly, stunning views from pitches at top of site. We were at bottom and it's a vey steep walk up to the toilet blocks and site entrance/exit. Good location close to Keswick - nice woodland walk into town. Davies taxi's are very good and reasonable. Run from booths supermarket back to site £4.50. Booked for 2 nights but liked it so much we stayed for an extra night.

Dear Guest, thank you for your recent review on TripAdvisor.

I'm pleased to hear that you liked our park so much you extended your stay.

I'm pleased to read you found everything clean and tidy and friendly.

The walks from the park are very popular and the one into town very handy.

Davies Taxis are a very good local firm which we recommend.

We hope to welcome you again to Keswick, the Lake District.

Yours sincerely

We used a mix of TripAdviser and online research to decide on Castlerigg Hall Caravan & Campervan park for our holiday.
We did leave our plans until last minute and wondered where we would end up but we completely lucked out and found this gem, so much so, our original plan of a 2 centre holiday went out of the window even before we'd seen the site in person.
As we did book late, it meant we had to swap pitch halfway through, but this didn't impede our time there at all.
In fact we spoke to a number of people who had also decided to stay and switched pitch.
On arrival we were quickly given our clearly marked hook-up numbered pitch(no.58) which was opposite the camping field and close to the lovely shower/toilet and pot wash building.
We were travelling in a campervan with awning and the pitch was lovely.(hard standing surrounded by grass and trees).
Levellers are advisable as the pitches are on a very slight angle.
Keswick is beautiful, and the park offers a beautifully set out environment, nature is all around, we had a daily visit from a robin on this pitch, beautiful birdsong in the morning, pot belly pigs in the field to the back. Rabbits, straight out of Beatrix Potter were abundant....funny to watch the smaller kids chasing them around!
The site's strict rule on noise (not before 8am or after 10.30pm) was followed by all visitors whilst there on our visit and I understand that it is enforced should anyone cause problems (speaking with staff)
This was great for us and went along with the no groups policy. This also gave a sense of relaxation to the whole site.
The main showers(ladies) and toilet block(main) was fantastic. 4 showers, hot water, plenty of mirrors, sinks, changing cubicles and hairdryers(tokens from reception) well lit and warm. These were kept clean by the attentive staff.
We used the pot wash for convenience, 4 sinks, plenty of space.
The second smaller and older toilet block has one shower and although more than sufficient for use, isn't as nice as the main block.
Great facilities! One of the best sites I've seen.
We used the site shop, which had plenty of local products and useful products.
We wouldn't normally of bothered but decided to use the laundry, washing one load(£3.) And then trying to dry this in the dryers. The full load of washing went into the dryer(£1.50), 29 minutes later it was just off wet. We placed it in again (£1.50) and after the same time it was still very damp. We hadn't brought a washing line so we had to dry stuff on the back of chairs etc. Expect for this to probably cost around £6 if you want to dry in the dryers but take a washing line/maiden type thing.
They have a great area for campers to cook and prepare/eat food and even a bath which can be rented.
Having spent a lovely week on the first pitch, we moved with no problem to our second pitch, again hookup with water too, hardstanding on pitch 29.
This area was away from the camping field and closer to the lake views, which are stunning.
Had we booked in advance, we would have loved to have got one of the superior view slots.(ours was slightly obscured by trees)
The site include a wonderful map in the welcome pack, which includes local walks, 3 of which we did.
The site is positioned perfectly for whatever kind of activity or holiday you're after.
Close enough to Derwentwater & Keswick to walk(scenic or road)-a short drive to Keswick. If you just want to chill onsite, there's a bar and restaurant on site, large green and play area, gallery and scenery to enjoy all around.
The staff are always around tending to the walkways, grass, cleaning and repairing-the site is immaculate.
All the staff we dealt with were helpful, jolly and friendly.
There's also a lovely little pub/bar-just around the corner from the site 'Crag Bar' where they serve vegetarian food.
Everyone we spoke to on site sang their praises.
We've been told this site is one of the more expensive, but to be honest, seeing the standard of the facilities and the site's position-I am not shocked or suprised, it's great value-we'd love to come back.
Thanks for making our holiday more memorable Castlerigg Hall!

Dear Guest, thank you so much for such a wonderfully detailed review.

I'm delighted to hear you have had such a memorable stay with us and that you found the facilities and our park to your liking.

We are very fortunate to be located where we are, which provides the best of both worlds. A quiet country location but easy access to Keswick, one of the Lake Districts most scenic and attractive market towns.

I shall pass on your feedback to all our staff who will be pleased to hear your comments.

Thank you again.

Yours sincerely

Loved every minute of our 2 week stay here, don't worry too much about the lack of playing park if you have a family, the recreation field and trees to climb are fantastic. Walk into Keswick is lovely, Jiggers is good for a meal and do great take-away chips !, Friendly staff, very clean facilities and a really lovely site. We'll be back !

Room Tip: Ask for a pitch with a view, alternatively close to the new shower block in the camping field is hel...

We spent 3 nights on this site and thoroughly enjoyed it. We camped on the tent field close to the excellent shower/toilet facilities. It is a well kept site with brilliant views and within walking distance of Keswick. The staff were polite and very helpful during our stay and we had no problems whatsoever. Granted we stayed through the week just before the school holidays so it was relatively quiet. Overall very enjoyable and wouldn't hesitate to recommend this site to others.

Despite a lot of rain, we had a fantastic time at this campsite! we made the most of the rain and got on our waterproofs and walked into Keswick! By the time we got back it was sunny so we cooked our tea outside.
The shower and toilet facilities are some of the best i've seen with loads of space to get changed in the showers and everything was kept nice and clean. Great friendly receptionists welcomed us to our stay and the onsite shop is well stocked with everything you could need.
The onsite restaurant- Jiggers- is lovely. Pretty cheap meals but tasted lovely and the service was very quick.
The views from this campsite are outstanding on a rainy or clear day! I would definitely recommend this site.

Dear Guest, thank you for posting your review and for your recommendation.

You have been unlucky to have had rain as we have had a very good summer but it is great to hear your positive attitude and that you had a fantastic time.

I'm pleased to hear you enjoyed all the facilities and that you discovered the lovely walk into Keswick.

We have spent a great deal reinvesting in our toilet and shower facilities and it is pleasing to hear you found them to be some of the best you have seen.

We hope to see you again.

Castlerigg was a great place to stay, only a few mins up the hill from Keswick township. Very clean and tidy facilities and lovely grounds, with outlook over the lake and in the surrounding hills. Many, many rabbits hopping around. I phoned through our booking in the afternoon prior to arriving but unfortunately when we arrived the man on reception couldn't find my booking. After a couple of phone calls to another staff member and a lot of fussing around he managed to (only just) find us another site but at a higher price. I objected to this and he, under sufferance, relented and charged me for what I had previously booked but made it clear he was doing me a big favour. Upon finding our site we also noted that there were in fact many other vacant sites available.

Dear Guest, thank you for your valued feedback.

I'm sorry that you had a problem on checking in but pleased that this was resolved.

Our computer booking system should have automatically emailed your confirmation or we post out confirmations to those guests without an email address, so I am unsure how this happened and can only apologise.

We operate a numbered system for booking pitches so there may well have been pitches that appeared available but would have been booked for different arrival dates or may well have been a campervan that was out for the day.

I'm pleased you found our park clean and tidy and hope you consider staying with us again.

Your sincerely

We don't usually do camping but thought we'd give it a go to try and bring the cost down from our usual visit to Keswick when we stay in B&Bs. After a lot of research as to which site to stay at we liked the sound of Castlerigg Hall and the fact it had views, wifi access and newly refurbished wash rooms was what made us choose this site! We arrived and was pleasantly told to go set up our tent then return to reception to check in so we followed the instructions on the map, chose a spot and paid for 2 nights.
Really wished we had just paid for one and checked into a B&B the second night there was no hot water at all in the mens wash room, my partner said he tried every tap plus he said the lay out was pretty shocking! Also we both tried to access the internet on several occasions in The restaurant and around the reception area and although we logged on fine the wifi is not strong enough to receive or send messages or emails and trying to access websites felt like the 90s when the internet first came about and you had to wait for the modems to start up! As for the views they were pretty spectacular when you wondered around the site and from certain caravan pitches but you don't get them from all tent pitches so be warned if you are going at a busy time you may not get a pitch with a view!
Also we stuck to the no making noise between 10.30pm and 8am but many didn't and with it being school holidays there was quite alot of noisey unruley children up at the crack of dawn and up till late!
The another annoying thing was not being able to access the path that led to Keswick from the tent area even though there is clearly a gate in the bottom left hand corner instead you had to walk right to the top of the site to get out then join the path and come back on yourself, surely putting up a style wouldn't hurt!
If you are a regular camper who can cope with any of the problems mentioned above then you would thoroughly enjoy this site but unfortunately for us we have been put off camping full stop as we would much prefer to pay double and stay in a little B&B with guaranteed hot water and creature comforts!

Dear Guest, thank you for posting your review on tripadvisor.

Our washroom layout is in the same style as 99% of other campsites although we have installed privacy cubicles in all our washrooms. The taps are sensor controlled and sometimes require a few moments in quieter times for the hot water to come through. We are looking at improving our washrooms this winter and extending our shower facilities.

Did you raise your WiFi connection problem with our reception? We have had no other feedback about not being able to connect although we accept connection can be slow due to our rural location and is why we offer this service free of charge.

We have not put a style through the hedge onto the footpath as our guests security is our priority. We accept that it does take another 5 minutes to walk out of the main gate and back onto the path.

I'm sorry that you found the children on the park to be unruly. Certainly this is the first complaint we have heard and speaking with our wardens they have said that there has been a lot of laughter on the play area and children engaging in sport but were all quiet by evening.

We accept that not all pitches have views but we make this as clear as possible in all our literature and website. We do have guests who do look for sheltered areas and don't require a view.

Yours sincerely
