“Great house for Christmas get-together.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 December 2012

We booked Brackenrigg for a family Christmas and it fit the bill perfectly. Lovely open plan living area was ideal and the dining table sat 11 for Christmas lunch. We had also booked one of the studio cottages for an additional two guests and there was room for us all to get together in the main house.
Owners were unobtrusive, but always available if help was needed. They even set up a lovely Christmas tree prior to our arrival.
Only 10 mins to Keswick, and just off the main road to Ambleside and the south lakes. Nice walks right from the front door. Raven Crag was an easy 2 hours with 2 young kids and lovely views down Thirlmere.

Lovely house in a great location. Thoroughly recommended.

My husband and I stayed in Brocklebeck Cottage for 4 nights as I was working in Carlisle either side of a weekend and we thought it would be a better option than Carlisle. How right we were! The cottage is lovely and cosy and extremely well appointed. Our hosts Judy and Harry had thought of everything and it really was like being home from home. The setting is just beautiful and very central to the lakes and a stone's throw from Keswick, a lovely town. We would also highly recommend the old theatre in Keswick which also serves as a cinema....well worth a visit! Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will make a beeline for Brackenrigg when we are next in the Lake District!

We stayed here with our baby and stayed in Bleaberry cottage which is a barn conversion. It was immaculate, warm and cosy with good amenities and a very friendly welcome from the owner and his dog.

The views were breathtaking and it's a good location, just a few miles out of Keswick with walks straight out the door. There is also lots of information in the cottage about other walks and pubs/restaurants etc.

The only negative was that they could not provide a travel cot as it was already booked out and for the cost (it's not cheap) I would have expected they had enough.

Worth the money though and going again out of season to make use of the discounted rate.

smelly beds and grubby surfaces. When issues raised with owners they defend everything and see it as your fault if you do not enjoy your stay. Just check out the tone of responses to complaints left on trip advisor. wouldn't go back.

Stayed in the High Rigg accommodation with 5 adults. Lots of room, well appointed and looked out over the most spectacular view of the mountains near Keswick in the lakes district. Judy and Harry were very friendly and accommodating and were willing to provide any advice necessary to enjoy the area. The accommodation had a large kitchen so you do your own meals but was only 2.5 miles from the lovely township of Keswick with lots of restaurants and pubs. Peaceful and lovely places to sit and just relax and enjoy the surroundings or you could walk out and hike through the countryside.Their dog Teak kept everyone entertained... Would go back again and would recommend highly.

Room Tip: High Rigg can sleep up to 8 with 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.

In June 2011, a group of my friends and I stayed in High Rigg for a weekend of Lakeland activities and thoroughly enjoyed it. There were 8 of us in total, although the cottage never really felt that crammed.

Facilities in general were very good; it was very clean and nicely presented, and the general standard of furnishing was high. Having 2 showers was also very welcome, as it helped us get out that bit quicker in the mornings. Perhaps the only (minor) negative points were that the kitchen was perhaps a little small for 8 people and it's probably a good job we didn't all try to fit around the dining table at the same time.

The location of the cottage was nice and close to Keswick, but in a beautiful valley just to the south, with fantastic views greeting you in the mornings. Even though the cottage is set about 50 metres back from the main road to Ambleside(?), you do still get a small amount of traffic noise, so it's not 100% tranquil in the garden. Still, it's not the busiest road in the world and, as mentioned, the view is lovely, so 4 out of 5 on that.

In fact, overall, it's a solid 4 out of 5. If staying in the area again with 7 mates, I'd definitely consider going back.

Room Tip: Bear in mind that High Rigg is adjoined to the owners' own home, so you'll need to keep the...

Our weekend at Brackenrigg was fantastic, beautiful scenery, fantastic accommodation. The owners couldn't have been any more accommodating.

The setting itself is enough to go for and the studio we stayed in was perfect for a cost getaway.
