“Another Excellent Stay At Oakthwaite House”
Reviewed 1 September 2011

This was our second stay at Oakthwaite House, the first being September 2010 and on both occassions the standard of accomodation, service and food provided by David & Karen was excellent! We again stayed in Room 5 which is the Kingsize on the 2nd floor, it's an ample sized room, decorated beautifully with great ensuite facilities. Family members also stayed with us this time which meant that we had the whole House to ourselves and all were very impressed with their rooms. Most TA reviewers rave about the Granola at breakfast and so they should as it's delicious. As is the complete breakfast experience, our group tried most things on the menu across the 3 mornings we ate there. Everything was superb, particularly the Lakeland Breakfast and the Salmon with Scrambled Egg.
David & Karen should feel very proud of themselves and Oakthwaite House as they go above and beyond to ensure you have the best Lake District Experience!

This was the nicest B&B on my travels. Small but well formed! Got a big room this time, well worth it, comfortable, with refreshing power-shower. Scrumptious breakfasts to wake up to.

Rained a lot this time, David again made good suggestions for things to do to stay dry. Will definitely return.

Myself and my partner stayed here for three nights in August with family and friends and had the whole house to ourselves. We had the superking size room which was lovely and spacious and the standard of accommodation is the best you could possibly expect. Very comfortable beds, the ensuite was great with a lovely large shower, really clean and well presented. Our visit here was to celebrate my 40th birthday and our friends 50th birthday and David and Karen made it very special for both of us, when I arrived to our room there was a card and a bottle of bubbly, and on the evening before we went out for our meal David had arranged the table in the dining room with a few nibbles as we were having a drink before we went out. David and Karen are very friendly and very attentive. Breakfasts were great, well thought out, prepared and presented, I started with the granola every morning which is very tasty, I am vegetarian but had the full english breakfast and David served two types of vegetarian sausages each time which were lovely. Overall this has been the best B & B that I have ever stayed in. We will definitely stay here again when visiting the lake district. Thank you for a fantastic and very welcoming stay.

We stayed here for two nights in August. Had the two rooms at the top of the house. The standard of accommodation is the best possible you could expect. Very comfortable beds, great ensuite, really clean and well presented. David and Karen are very friendly and very attentive. Nothing left to chance, breakfasts were great, well thought out, prepared and presented. You couldn't ask for more in B and B. We will definitely stay here again if visiting the lake district. Thank you for a very enjoyable stay.

We have just returned from a weeks holiday at Oakthwaite House in keswick and it was just as good as it had been the previous year. It was so nice to return somewhere familar and have a nice warm welcome from David & Karen we felt at home as soon as we walked through the door! The breakfasts are still amazing and the offer on choice has expanded, all local produce cooked to a high standard. The bedroom room 2 has all you need, plenty of space, huge bed and a lovely view .All in all a lovely week in the lakes, what more could we ask for, great weather, amazing scenery and a lovely place to stay.

Room was lovely and clean, fab shower and view of Skiddaw. Breakfast was superb and the granola was delicious. Karen and David were great hosts and very familiar with the area. Highly recommended and we hope to go back in October.

Another satisfying stay at Oakthwaite House. We were in a different room to the one we were in on previous visits and were pleasantly surprised. Even though it was a 'compact' room was a charming and clean with great views. Brilliant breakfasts (delicious crepes) and David was able to help us with info on Keswick and ideas and maps for walks. We managed the Cat Bells again, this time in sunshine! - another sense of achievement and good views of the lake. We will be back again!
