“Lovely welcoming b&b”
Reviewed 13 June 2014 via mobile

We stayed here for one night before attending a wedding nearby. The Inn is easy to find with private car parking. The welcome was friendly and warm. The room we were in was clean, comfortable and a good size. I was concerned we would be disturbed by noise from the bar (our room was over it) but apart from a small amount of noise as the last customers left I heard nothing. Breakfast was generous and great quality. Overall I was extremely satisfied and would recommend.

Very lovely quaint inn, on arrival met with a warm and friendly smile nothing seemed to much trouble. The room was very clean and spacious with lovely decor. Food and service in the restaurant was fantastic and then sat in the bar for the evening. After a good nights sleep Breakfast was a tradional full English which set us up perfectly for a day in the lakes. The inn is very convenient in a quiet village and is highly recommended, we will be staying here again.

We stayed here for one night only while staying in the lake district for a couple of days to celebrate my birthday. We wanted to be away from the usual crowds and were delighted to find such a lovely pub in a wonderful area we had not really explored previously. Our meal was very good although usual pub food and the service could not have been better. Breakfast was most welcome prior to our fell walking. Would certainly stay here again.

Room Tip: Our room was at the front with a wonderful queen beam. Shame about squeaky floorboards.

We enjoyed a 2 night stay in this oldie worldie inn. We had a twin room which was basic, and the beds were quite old, hard and lumpy, but at least they had mattress toppers which helped. There was a TV and tea/coffee making facilities. The bathroom was basic, and the shower door didn,t close easily without force. My husband was disappointed with the choice of beer, especially it being a Jennings pub. We enjoyed an average priced evening meal of steak and lamb. There is a choice of cereals, and a cooked breakfast. The staff were friendly and helpful. I would have given a higher score if they replaced the beds, as they were very tired...

We stayed at The Herdwick after planning a last minute weekend away walking in the lakes. We paid £60 for bed and breakfast and were amazed how good it was. Easy to find and park, wifi free of charge, lovely bar with open fire and great food. The room was lovely, good bathroom and shower, comfortable bed. The breakfast was great too. We got so much more than what we expected, the owner/staff we lovely and friendly, and we will definitely be going again.

Room Tip: We had room 1 - and it was at the end of the corridor (just 5 rooms) so no passing people.

We were attending a show at Rheged, and needed somewhere to stay over the night before. We booked the Herdwick Inn, as it was very close, and seemed to offer what we needed.
On arrival, we were greeted warmly, and shown to our room - most of the room was taken up with a huge double bed, which was extremely comfortable. The room was spotlessly clean, and had TV and tea/coffee.
We spent most of the evening downstairs in the pub, which had excellent Jennings ale, and a traditional menu. My partner had a Special - Leek and Ham pie, which had chunks of ham and plently of leeks in a creamy sauce topped with light puff pastry, and I had the Scampi. Both were delicious, and plentiful. The vegetables were cooked well, and very tasty, and the chips were beautifully crunchy. The food was all served piping hot and freshly cooked.
We had a good night's sleep, shower was more powerful than we would have expected from a building not purpose built as a modern hotel. Breakfast was excellent - choice of cereals, orange juice, coffee/tea, topped off with a full English consisting of bacon, egg, sausage, black pudding mushrooms, tomato and fried bread. Toast accompanied the breakfast, which was well-cooked and tasty. Neither of us bothered with lunch, as we still felt comfortably full.
All in all, we found the inn to be excellent, and will be returning. It is a couple of minutes off the A66, so very convenient, yet in a very quiet village.

Called into the pub for some tea, the staff are so friendly & helpful I thought we had gone back in time to the era when landlords actually enjoyed their trade rather than just doing it as a job. The service & food we had was fantastic good real ale & my steak was cooked to perfection I asked for it rare & it was, most pubs are to scared to serve a proper rare steak. It was a lovely night that we both really enjoyed & would highly recommend it to anyone in the area.
