“Great family holiday”
Reviewed 19 July 2014

We are just home from a 7 night stay at Whinfell Forest. We stayed in a new style executive lodge which was nicely decorated and very clean. (On our last visit 10 years ago our stay was spoiled by a basic and unclean lodge). Very different experience this time around. Our lodge had 3 en suites bedrooms and a sauna. Plenty of room for a family of 4 or more. I would have liked to have seen some basic condiments in the lodge to make life a little easier.(sugar/salt/herbs/butter).
The activities on offer are fantastic for the whole family (we have a 7 year old and 11 year old) albeit expensive if everyone gets involved. The online activity booking system works well and the staff running activities are confident and knowledgeable. It is a very child friendly holiday and I really like the no car policy which forces everyone to walk or cycle.
The restaurants we tried were great, our favourites were The Pancake House and Café Rouge. The on site supermarket had everything you could possibly need, but I felt it was overpriced. My advise would be to take a grocery shop with you.

Fantastic family holiday, we will definitely be back! Although we will need to save up first as it isn't a cheap option.

The highlight for the children was the swimming. They LOVED IT!

We do value all feedback from our guests and do often make changes as a result of suggestions received. Thank you for taking the time to share your constructive comments.

It is pleasing to read that overall you enjoyed your stay with us and that your children particularly enjoyed the Subtropical Swimming Paradise and I do hope it won’t be another 10 years before we have the opportunity to welcome you back again.

Kind regards

First class situation in a forest setting, all well kept without being over manicured. Lodge was delightful, only let down by old fashioned plastic shower liable to burn/freeze user if other family members ran water elsewhere, and lack of wi-fi - really not acceptable nowadays. Activities were great, especially the swimming pool which had lots of different aspects. Some activities very expensive, so plan costs in advance . Plenty of choice for eating out. All in all a great holiday, and all staff very helpful.

Room Tip: Lodges on the fringes of the site allow for more cycling if you have a keen cyclist in your family

If, like me, you have never been to a Centre Parcs - just go, just do it. We took 10 adults, 18 - 58 from our extended family for a 'get to know you better weekend' and what a hoot it was. High ropes, canoeing, cycling, swimming, table tennis, eating, drinking, laughing and joking all compulsory.

The Lodges were superb with better bathrooms than at home! Give it a go - you won't be disappointed.

What a great place to stay! I will use words like comfy, cost, relaxing and a place to charge your batteries! Great cabins, excellent facilities and you can leave your car in the car park. I couldn't find a fault and if you don't enjoy yourself, you're missing out!

This is by far my favourite UK Center Parcs and quite possible my overall favourite! I love the layout of this village and all of the facilities are kept to a really high standard. I've lost count of how many times I have stayed here and the service is always excellent. I stayed here a couple of years ago for Christmas and we had several problems with the heating. This would not have usually been a problem but at one point the temperature dropped to -20.c. However they got someone out really quickly and the problem was fixed after a day or so. We also forgot to buy oil which could have lead to disaster as we didn't realise until Christmas Day when we went to cook the roast potatoes! However once again staff were great and dropped some over to us so Christmas was saved. We had brilliant weather in our most recent stay here so could take full advantage of the water sports. The pottery painting is also great for all ages and good value for money.

Room Tip: You can get some really good deals if you book last minute.

This was our 4th visit to whinfell forest and I have to say we were slightly disappointed in the experience this time round. The lodge felt dated (tape deck on the stereo and a big fat CRT telly) with maintenance issues which when reported were not fixed. The sofas were the most uncomfortable slippery things to sit on- I know you don't come on these holidays to sit in but when your 4 year old wants to go to bed you are stuck in the lodge and comfort is important!

The ferocious mark up on food and drink in the restaurants is scary. £75 for a basic 2 course meal for 2 adults and 2 kids (maybe we don't eat out often enough but it seemed rather steep)

It seems to have become rather commercial in the last year or two. Its ok but it seems to be going down the road of a posh butlins with trees and lodges instead of caravans. Don't expect to do any of the activities for less than £20. The pool is free which is a blessing, and there was a free kids disco but even then the marked up drinks prices turn the couple of hours you are there in to a full night out! I don't think we will be back for a while.

Short and sweet..well I'll try.
Great place!
Our son aged 7 went round the Canyon Ride (rapids) continuously. Must have gone into x3 figures over the week.
Staff are ALL so friendly.
Facilities great.
Very clean.
Love the ducks at the patio door.
Great adventure park for the kids.
Take your own bikes if you can.
Hucks food, cocktails, drinks and staff are brilliant!
We were lucky with the weather but even if it rains there is plenty to do.
Shame there isnt WIFI everywhere.
Only bad thing was the Center Parks big green Mercedes van with the x2 workman of some kind in it. Driving far too fast and the driver was on his mobile phone!!! Recipe for disaster. Center Parks staff sorting that one out.
Definetly be going again.
