“Good....but could be better”

We have been to Sherwood Forest on a number of occasions but thought we would try Whinfell as there's not much difference in distance from where we live and it was cheaper. We stayed in the lakeside apartments which didn't really have any sort of view from ours which was number 20. I have to say that we do prefer the lodges, the apartments just didn't have the same feeling and was definitely noisier!
We went to the twilight spa which we have enjoyed at Sherwood on numerous occasions but to be quite honest found it to be disappointing. Most of the rooms had no music playing and we feel that that's all part of the relaxation. There was also a couple of rooms missing that we really enjoyed at Sherwood.
I did like that everything was all under one roof but the main thing that we both missed was the rapids in the swimming pool. There was some good rides but they are quite rough and I was quite bruised and battered from them.
I also could not believe that we didn't see one squirrel while we was there!
All in all we did have a great time but we both thought it's not the same as Sherwood and we have in fact booked to go to Sherwood again in January as we did kind of feel a bit short changed. I. Would say if it's too far to Sherwood Forest then give Whinfell a try, if there's not much in it then go to Sherwood Forest!

This was our first visit to Center Parcs at Whinefell and we had such a great time, the Lodge (we had an executive lodge overlooking the lake), facilities and staff were of the highest quality - this was definately the first of many visits to come - we will be back. Lots of wild life around our lodge - every day we had red squirrels, rabbits and ducks at our door and considering the amount of people at the resort we did not feel overcrowded, it was a real unexpected suprise at the level of enjoyment we had as a family at Center Parcs.

I agree with a previous review that the accommodation is a bit tired but comfortable. Disappointing, grubby outdoor furniture was a minus. A big plus, however, was the friendly, helpful staff in all areas.

No Red Squirrels but a fantastic break. We stayed in an traditional executive lodge which was very spacious for the group. The back drops are amazing and tranquil. Accommodation is clean but a little dated but this did not spoil the break what so ever. Kitchens are equipped with everything, beds very comfy, hair dryers in all rooms and tv's. Segway Experience is amazing as is the subtropical pools. Lovely lake and walks. Love the fact that no cars around after check in day making really safe for kids. Definitely a must for a relaxing break in the Forrest with plenty to keep everyone busy.

The park itself is the usual center Parcs standard ...in that it is great for families and plenty of activities for all. We went as part of a wider group and stayed in one of the Executive villas....this was fairly basic - bar the hot tub and sauna - the villa had seen better days. The standard of the fit out was just that standard. The kitchen implements were akin to a poor self catering rental and quite a bit short of what Center Parcs sets out to be. In the previous 6 months we had also stayed in one of the Center Parc Treehouses in Sherwood ....you wouldn't think this was the same business ...poles apart.

Room Tip: Don't waste your money on upgrading to the better villas .... They aren't that much better

I am sorry you were disappointed by the standard of your Executive Villa. We do state on our website the Executive Villas do have ‘original style décor’. That said, it is our intention to maintain all our accommodation to an acceptable standard at all times and we do have an ongoing refurbishment programme on our Village to meet this aim.

I do hope your disappointment on this visit will not deter you from returning to Center Parcs again in the near future.

Kind regards

My son loved it. Absolutely loved it. Opened the door and into the countryside. Pricey, but that's not stopping us going back for another trip this year!
the pool was fantastic, the service getting my gran to and from the lodge was excellent.
As I say, we'll be back (despite having a limited budget for holidays and treats!)
