“A Friendly B & B for Walkers”
Reviewed 24 May 2014

We started our exploration of Cumbria and Eden Valley in Penrith at the Blue Swallow. It was the perfect start to our walking holiday--a comfy bed, spotlessly clean & quiet room and hearty full English breakfast to see us off. Cynthia's homemade marmalade was a special treat and Peter set us off with perfect directions to the local castles and trails. Highly recommend!

this couple really know how to make you feel welcome and they run a great hotel. spotless, comfortable. great atmosphere. you kind of feel you've known them a long time. highly recommended. i'll definitely stay here again - peter and cynthia really have the knack when it comes to dealing with the public. so nice to have a friendly face when you've been driving all day. it's also about a minute from the motorway - incredibly convenient.

I booked it as a result of previous positive review, although it looks a little rough from the outside, once in the room you can admire the attention to detail and the inclusion of everything you could want from fresh water in a lovely bottle to all the toiletries you could want in the bathroom and to top it off the room was extremely clean.
It was definetley worth the money I paid and was by far the best place I have stayed in a while. The breakfast was a buffet/ full English or toast and included fruit and yoghurt in addition to the usual cereal, eat as much as you like and its sets you up for the day.

Its very much in walking distance of all local amenities and the town centre and although a little walk from the train station, the walk allows you to get your bearings and see just what Penrith has to offer.

The owners were ever so friendly and welcoming and I would most certainly choose to stay there again when visiting Penrith.

Lovely welcome, comfy bed and great breakfast including home made marmalade!

Our bikes were well looked after and so were we! We gobbled up the club biscuits in our room after a hard day cycling!

Would recommend as a stop off for anyone doing a 3 day C2C ride.

Really nice place run by a lovely couple. Nice breakfast, clean and comfortable room in nice area.
They even helped me out in finding a local bikeshop in Keswick when I was in a pickle after crashing my cycle.

I stayed here for 2 weeks whilst on a course with work...
The place is clean, comfortable and ideally located for Penrith town centre.
My room was a little cold, as the radiators are behind the curtains, so unless you keep the curtains open, then the heat doesn't really get chance to come into the room....but only a small thing.
The rooms have everything you need in them, soap, shower gel, shampoo and conditioner - which is a nice touch and at no extra cost.....
The breakfasts were great, you can have what you want and Peter and Cynthia are very friendly and if you need anything, they are always on hand to assist you.....
I had a room at the rear of the property, and I couldn't hear any road noise, not sure if you are at the front how it would be as it is on a main road......
Supermarket is just round the corner and the main town is a 5 minute walk away.....
