“Great Trip!”

Firstly we had a great trip. The food was lovely, I would recommend one of Penny's pies! very reasonable prices also. We were met with a friendly atmosphere and this continued throughout. Beautiful surroundings, well worth a bike ride around the local villages.
I would recommend the Strickland Arms to anyone.

Room Tip: The log yurt is ideal for a Family or group of friends. Also try one of Penny's Pies...

I stayed here as a stop over on my trip to and from Scotland with my dog, who was very welcomed by the hosts and the pub regulars. This is a lovely friendly pub with a great ambiance and the food was outstanding. The breakfast was lovely. The first night I stayed was curry night and it was delicious and the meal on my return trip is the best steak meal I have ever eaten - steak cooked to perfection. The room was lovely and spacious and very clean. Penny and Anton are definitely great hosts. I will definitely be returning in the future. If you want a friendly, relaxed and efficient place to stay, you wont be disappointed.

You know the B&B is special when you arrive at the pickup location and the hosts have been out looking for you in the driving rain. While walking the Coast to Coast path, we didn't get our waterproofs on in time and sloshed into Orton to meet our hosts, Anton and Penny, about 1/2hour after the appointed pickup time. After discovering we hadn't arrived, they drove out to the trail to see if they could find us. A phone call soon connected us and they loaded our dripping packs and bodies into their van for the drive to the Strickland Arms. Penny dealt with our soggy boots and hiking clothes then sent us down to the pub for fabulous dinner of Penny's pies...Steak and Ale and Chicken and Leek.
We needed another day to dry out, so we enjoyed a leisurely breakfast while Anton regaled us with the story of how he and Penny left their city jobs and became pub/inn owners and the perfect timing for the delicious flakey crusted pies which they've perfected. The pub was the winner of a Tour de France promotion in 2012 and the story of how the British team all came to dinner was worth the layover day. We felt slightly guilty for having to take a day off the trail, but the experience of meeting Anton and Penny made us realize that these are the experiences we travel for and have to be open to. In addition to marvelous hosts, the room was large, wifi fast and the food and waitstaff excellent. Did I mention we had fun? Great Fun! We hated to leave when it was time for Anton to drive us back to the C2C route, but we left with wonderful memories!

If you are looking for a place to stay, look no further than the Strickland Arms. This is the best hotel in Penrith by far. Great food and superb accommodation. We stayed in the yurt and visited the Wiggo's Barn. Excellent friendly people. Would definitely go back for a longer stay.

What an amazing place to stay and eat! We stayed in the Yert which was beautiful and food was absolutely gorgeous! owners were so friendly and even took us down into Penrith for or second leg if the C2C. Will defiantly return for a mini break! Thank you :-) the 4 bikers!

We stayed here for 5 days, The Strickland Arms is one of the nicest country pups you could wish for, in the lovely little village of Great Strickland, not far from Penrith and well worth a visit. The hosts Penny and Anton were extremely hospitable, nothing was too much trouble, the same can be said for the bar staff, the service was tremendous. As for the food, this is not just pub grub, it is real fresh cooked gourmet dishes, I would highly recommend the pies, all made to order, my partner had Steak and Kidney which he said just melted in the mouth, I had the Strickly Lamb and Ale pie, I loved every morsel. We also had the steaks, which are locally sourced and cooked just as you like them. Our only regret is that we were not there long enough to try the entire menu, but you can be assured we will return soon. Along with the rooms in the pub, they also have a Log Yurt which can sleep up to 8, we had a look at this and it would be great for groups or a family, there is everything you need/want there in a quiet peaceful setting a real hidden gem.

Room Tip: If you are visiting the Eden Valley area of the lake district walking or cycling the Strickland Arms...
