“Stop over in Penrith”
Reviewed 17 February 2012

I recently spent 2 nights at the Staition hotel in Penrith while exploring the lake District.

The outstanding points about this hotel was firstly the outstanding welcome from the owners , nothing seemed too much trouble and we were made to feel very welcome from the outset .
We were staying on a bed and breakfast basis but following a recomendation we decided to have an eveing meal and we were very glad we did .
There are many options in Penrith when it comes to dining however the chef at the Station hotel is outstanding , the food here is amazing and I recomend you book even if you are just visiting the town .It seems that many locals will dine here out of choice which is a fine recomendation in itself.
The rooms was comfortable and had character .

The bar staff looked after us well when we wanted to have a drink in the popular bar .

outstanding value for money , give it a try .

1 night stop over on walking holiday and what a great place, friendly owners and staff.
the food was fantastic and yes the building could do with updating but why change the character.

Room Tip: try for a room at the back of the hotel

My wife and I stayed at The Station Hotel last weekend and had a great time. The managament and staff are very helpful and friendly. We stayed for three nights and ate in the restaurant Friday (steak night, delicious) and Saturday(superb). We also had the carvery on Sunday(second to none). The breakfast was filling and satisfying and the vegetarian breakfast was equal to the full english. We had a few drinks in the bar each night and the locals are very warm and friendly. The rooms are spotlessly clean and comfortable, I couldn't fault them. The hotel is within walking distance of the train station(hence the name) and is a lovely Victorian building on the edge of town.Great value for money and i would definetly recommend it

Recently stayed here with my brother in law, it was our first stop overnight whilst doing the coast to coast cycle ride. Initially I was a little underwhelmed but the building has lots of character and charm and the same can be said of the extremely friendly staff. The room was clean and had everything we needed for a good nights rest, the building could do with some tlc all round but dont let that put you off. Clean rooms and superb friendly customer service go a long way. As for the food......great value, fresh and most of all wonderfully tasty! The waitress whom I think I was the landlady was most attentive.

Excellent all round, just some tlc on the building and decor.

My stay at the station hotel was fantastic! we visited penrith on a golfing trip in a group of 6. When i saw the building it was a lovely victorian hotel. When we entered we were warmly welcomed by the friendly staff who were promted and very charming. The rooms were very clean and spacious. They had a lovely reastront were the food was outstanding and great value for money. The breakfast was filling and not only that they made us all fresh packed lunch's for the journey home. Over all a very pleasing stay and a great laugh. Will be returning later in the year!

If i hadnt stayed here before the previous 2 reviews would certainly have put me off!! However as i say we have been here before and know exactly what we are getting. The Station is indeed an old building circa 1890, as was the case with pubs with rooms in those days they were invariably given the title 'Hotel'. Now if you do a little bit of groundwork before booking and check the website out you will see pictures of all the rooms on there, so you can see exactly what you are getting for your money and lets face it if you are only paying £27.50pp you cant really complain if the bellboy doesnt take your bags to your room!!! We stayed in room 3 and yes you can hear some noise from the bar but when staying over a pub what do you really expect. The noise was not unbearable and quitened off around 11 when the pub starts to close down. We found all the staff friendly and helpful our room was clean and tidy with clean fresh sheets and towels. The food here is really good and i honestly cant fault it. When we go away for the weekend we like to stay in independent places rather than the steroetypical chains. But please if you expect a 3 star experience you need to pay for it and as i say for £27.50 a night be realistic. We are due back up in another 6 months or so and will stay here again, we would encourage people to check out the website and if necessary call up with any queries. Honestly i dont believe it to be anywhere near as bad as some people have made it out to be, then again we all have an opinion and this is just mine..
We will return.
