Do not pay extra and book a suite. As a member of Shire Hotel Spa in Bristol, we thought we would take advantage of the members free night and discount and stay for 4 nights and upgrade to a suite, described as follows on their website " For those looking for that extra luxury our suites are ideal. Designed to offer you unadulterated style, ample space and luxurious surroundings; our generous suites offer king –sized beds, a tranquil environment, and everything you need to make your stay extra special"
What a disappointment, yes the room was large, but that was about all. It was on the ground floor adjacent to the car park. We went to bed on the first night of our stay only to be awoken by banging of furniture, doors and clinking of glasses and crockery, we soon realised that this was due to the room opposite being set up as a meeting room. These rooms seem to double up as meeting rooms or bedrooms so obviously if you are staying as a hotel guest in amongst meetings you will get disturbed.
The room was exceptionally hot although the weather outside was not, we needed the window open as there is no air conditioning and were therefore again woken up by coaches parked right outside the window with their engines on from about 7am. We were given a sheet to replace the thick duvet after speaking to the duty manager the next morning. We were offered to move room but she thought the alternative may be even more noisy than the room we were in.
The overall appearance of the room was tired with a large damp patch on the ceiling, which has black mould on it, trims were missing from furniture, the middle of the tap trim came out when first used, the towels were dirty, the carpet was stained. The bathroom was no better than a standard room. The only advantage over a normal room was the free drinks in the fridge although we had to leave note for a bottle opener to be left in order to open the 2 bottles of lager. Fresh fruit was supposed to be included but this consisted of a couple of apples on the first night. We again left a note after not getting this replenished on the second day.
The issue of the noise and heat was discussed with the duty manager after the first night and she offered a drink from the bar and a move to a room which could possibly be more noisy, we decided that we would probably be best staying where we were. The next three nights continued to he the same so we spoke to the manager when departing. He kindly reduced the bill quite considerably to the normal room rate, but after getting home and calculating this I don't believe I got my members discount. After writing to the Managing Director of Shire Hotels, we were just given reasons for some of the issues - exceptionally hot weather so would need windows open (weather was not that great) and will get noise from carpark, stain on ceiling had happened night before so no time to repaint etc. No mention of meetings.
After having high expectations for our holiday we felt it was absolutely ruined by the room not being as described. Do not pay extra and book a suite.

Many thanks for taking the time to post your comments following your recent stay. I am sincerely sorry that you continue to be disappointed, as you rightly point out, we did offer to move you to a different suite at the rear of the hotel, which would not have faced the car park, you declined this offer. We will always endeavour to put thing right whilst guests are on site if we fail to deliver, and this was recognised with a significant discount to your final account. I believe that this was a fair gesture, and am genuinely sorry if you disagree. Should you wish to book a stay in any of our properties in the future, then please contact me personally to handle your booking and I will arrange the very best possible rate for you.
Assuring you of my best attention.

Upon arrival the reception staff were very pleasant. Lovely hunting lodge style feel to the lobby. Our room was nice with a huge kingside bed and a chocolate cookie personalised with our sons name was waiting for us along with fluffy robes and a snack basket. We had dinner in the restaurant where our sons meal was served first, nice touch, the food itself was first class but the service was a bit ropey. I think a little more organisation is all that's needed. We had booked for breakfast but had to rush off in the morning so the really helpful staff rushed together a little take away bag of bacon rolls, fruit and coffee. Overall a very pleasant stay and would defiantly return

Weekend night away, one of the benefits of being a member in leeds! A bit disappointed when we arrived the spa is no where near as good as the one in Leeds. The bedrooms beige n cream ( although clean) look tired. The restaurant was clean but had a smell of boiled cabbage ? Why when this was not on the menu. Food similar to the restaurant in Leeds but the setting not quite as good.
Sorry Shire this is not one of your best ! A little bit of upgrading needed.
Staff all polite and attentive :)

We stayed the weekend and really loved it. The staff were all extremely friendly polite and attentive, and could not do enough for you! The place was extremely clean and the rooms serviced well. The food was excellent especially the breakfasts. We did not have tome to use the pool or spa facilities but they looked good. The only grouse would be it got a little noisy on the Saturday night with people moving around the corridors late on but you could expect this in a hotel of this size. Overall we very very impressed!

Lovely staff, very comfortable beds, excellent facilities, good age restrictions, fast service; just a very good hotel. There is no air conditioning in the room which was disappointing, especially as the rooms get very hot over night. Another thing is that food is very expensive, so be prepared to wonder off to find other food places.

All in all very good, just let down slightly by those factors.

Stayed for two nights whilst my fiancé did the total warrior challenge. Lovely hotel, our daughter loved the pool facilities. Room was nice and clean. Staff are friendly and helpful. My only negative is the food is very expensive breakfast cost us £20 for continental and we each had a bowl of cereals and some toast. Then £30 the second morning for a hot breakfast which is served to you so you can't fill up your plate to get your monies worth. I think this is too much when the room was expensive too. That and £150 for an evening meal in the hotel restaurant it all added up to an expensive weekend! It certainly put me off having any spa treatments whilst we were there which would have been nice.
