Booked two nights, first impressions what a great looking hotel in a fabulous setting , the views are delightful, we had a small issue on arrival which was resolved swiftly and professionally and thanks to the receptionist on duty for the manner in which she dealt with it. The breakfast was excellent, lots of choice, the cooked option was exceptionally good as was the polite service each morning. We also ate in the bar restaurant on our last evening and once again couldn't fault the food, it was so good, especially the home-cooked fish goujons, the best we have ever eaten. We will definitely be returning very soon.

Room Tip: Room 7 a really nice room at the front of the hotel with stunning views, the en-suite was a tad smal...

We stayed in 2 rooms. We were traveling with my parents, my husband and I and 13 year old son. The property is beautiful with lovely views of the surrounding countryside. The rooms were clean and spacious with large ensuite. After doing quite a bit of driving we were happy to have dinner in the dining room which was delicious and reasonable. The staff was extremely friendly and accomodating. The cooked to order breakfast was wonderful. We only wished we could have stayed longer.

We stayed at this hotel en route to Scotland, the staff were extremely friendly especially Sarah. For our needs (travelling with dogs) it wasnt ideal as there was limited immediate walks but there was a good walk a few minutes drive away. We knew this was not a dog friendly hotel when we booked so dog sleeping in the car wasnt an issue. We didnt didnt take advantage of the evening food but wished we had .. (please see our review of the clickham inn)
The decor of the hotel was modern and tasteful and yet tried to be in keeping with the period of the building. Having said that, one detrimental feature was the 1970s frosted glass wall at the top of the landing which detracted from the overall look and feel.

The breakfast was excellent and very high quality. All in all excellent service and value for money.

I stayed on a visit to PENRITH where I used to live,to visit my daughter.I'd been to a couple of weddings at this hotel, but this was my first experience as a staying guest.I have to say it wasn't a disappointment, apart from the taxi fare back from town at night, which I obviously expected, its just a little far out of town, good for some, awkward for others, but if you know that and are prepared, this ticks all the boxes.Large airy room, warm, and a very nice breakfast all at a reasonable price, well worth a visit 8/10 from me.

Hello Mr & Mrs Murchison!

It is so lovely to hear from you! I hope you enjoyed your Honeymoon?

Thank you so much for the very kind feedback. We at the Roundthorn are just pleased that you enjoyed your special day, (it seems like so long ago already!) and we're proud to have been a part of it. We always strive to ensure we offer great service to Brides and Grooms, and their guests alike, so to hear that everyone had a great time is wonderful.

It was my absolute pleasure to get to know you both, and we all really hope to see you again at some point in the future, so please do stay in touch.

Kindest regards and best wishes for the future.

This is a small country house hotel and with that comes a lot of positives and charm, however that also means you have to be prepared to accept that it is not a modern hotel and success to some parts of the house is limited by narrow stairs, especially to the top floor were I stayed.

I had room 10, which was very nice, large with both a bathroom and a separate kitchen! Getting to the room could be difficult if you are not very mobile as the last set of stairs are very narrow. The staff are aware of this and will offer to help with your bags. The climb is worth it!

One small thing is that reception is not always manned and I had to search to find a member of staff to check in.

The food was fine if a little limited in its range, but well cooked and well presented.

Worth a visit if you want to get away from the rat race.
