Having been to the Roundthorn for a wedding reception several years ago we jumped at the chance to go to a christmas "do" there....well i wish we hadnt bothered. The reception was casual as was the offer to take up our luggage, I understand that a last minute booking sometimes means you dont get the best room but crikey the room we were allocated must have been a lnen room in a previous life or at best a single room, the wardrobe wasnt even big enough to hang our evening clothes and jackets in . it was most certainly nothing like the rooms that you see in their advertisments ! We had to take turns in the shower room that was just that , the width of the shower.there was no bath. The bar prior to the dinner was absolutely heaving with people , noise , no seating and little chance of getting to the bar .Of the meal itself sevice was slow with the same tables being served first all of the time it was unfortunate that people who got served later on had to wait a good 10 minutes for vegetables as they had either run out or people were hungrier than expected (personally i think that the small serving dish between 4 people was totally inadequete) the entertainment and music was very dated. ..one of our party (a head of department) who has been there several times this year with various groups and over previous years told me that it was word for word the same every time...needless to say we retired early and watched TV !!. all in all a very disappointing and expensive experience.

booked last minute for a couple of days away from it all - and we were not dissappointed! Made to feel really welcome and great advice about where to go for a walk, recommended pubs to eat in etc. The room was very comfortable and quite plush with a great view and breakfast was huge! Would definately go back if we get a chance to escape again.

We spent a long weekend at the hotel with our two children it was a beautiful part of the Lakes to visit and fantasic views looking over the whole of the Northern Lakes. The hotel staff were extremely helpful and very professional. The hotel rooms were spotless, beautifully finished and very comfortable and the grounds of the hotel had lots of safe space to keep our two children happy and busy. From this location you go almost anywhere in the Lakes and Eden Valley and there is lots to do and see for the adults as well as the children. Food at the hotel was good and there was lots of local options as well. Very recommendable experience.

I researched to find the best hotel that I could before myself and my partner had a well deserved break in the lakes. I was not disappointed! The service, the staff at the Roundthorn were all superb! The standard of decor was high and very tasteful. Everyone was incredibly helpful and nothing was too much trouble. I can't recommend this hotel highly enough and will definitely return.

This is my second time staying at the Roundthorn and felt compelled to write a review 'as not something I would normal do' Such a great place to stay and explore the lakes. Its not very often in this day and age that you really get what you paid for so it makes such a relief to finally stay in a place that delivers on all levels.

Thanks once again for a great stay, the refurbished rooms are lovely and very comfortable and your staff are a credit.

Hope to visit again soon.

I very rarely return to a hotel twice. Why would I want to when there are so many to experience? However, I now have to make the exception. The Roundthorn was far beyond my expectations in every way. Staying at the hotel was a treat for myself and daughter as part of a spa day at a nearby location. From the offset the car park is great and free! The bedrooms are large and the facilities so clean. The beds comfortable and warm. The breakfast was 6*. As the Hotel is up quite high on a hill I asked the mananagement if the roads were maintained with grit in bad weather. They assured me that there were so as to ensure safe passage for guests. The Hotel provides bar snacks as a service but doesn't have a restaurant on site. The friendly reception staff recommended a local pub for late night food called The Cross Keys Inn. Without a doubt, this proved to be an absolute excellent recommendation. My room had a kitchen. It was hidden away so found it by surprise. Please don't tell everyone though about Roundthorn as this is my secret hidden gem up on a hill with panoramic views. This fusspot who isn't easily pleased with accommodation, definately concludes ' i'll be back' !
