“‘’A delightful property equipped to a high standard in a prime location’’”
Reviewed 26 February 2012 for a stay in February 2012

We returned to the immaculate Smithy House, for the fourth time, for a short break and again had a great stay.
Booking through the owners is effortless and they kindly arranged for the heating to be on for our arrival providing a warm cosy welcome (the complimentary home-made jam helped too)
While it can sleep 8 it still has the cosy feel thanks to the way the owners have tastefully decorated and furnished it with their personal touches making it ideal for week-ends, short breaks, or longer holidays.
We enjoy lighting the log fire with the plentiful supply of ready cut logs and kindling. There are other complimentary items such as tea, coffee, hot choc. dishwasher tabs, toiletries etc. along with the Wi-Fi (if you can’t do without it), and even food for the birds and squirrels.
The Village has lots of amenities such as pub, hotel, shop, farm shop and tea rooms, all within a stroll and Penrith along with the northern lakes are a short drive away (or if you are feeling energetic there are 2 mountain bikes in the garden shed).
We have no hesitation in recommending this property and would hope to return ourselves in the future.

My husband and I have just returned from a wonderful week at Smithy House. It was my 50th Birthday and we couldn't have asked for a nicer place to spend it. When we arrived it was spotlessly clean, cosy and warm. There was tea, coffee, hot chocolate, and Jam with compliments from Colin and Della the owners. Even better was the lovely supply of spirits and cocktails with a note to help ourselves. There was also a huge supply of logs in the garden for the fire which we didn't really need to use but couldn't resist! The bedrooms are beautifully decorated and the slipperbath in our bedroom was wonderful. The village has a lovely little pub and a very nice hotel. The pub didnt open all day in the week but was open all day saturdays and sundays. We had 6 friends stay for two nights over the weekend and had to use the sofa bed which I must say was very large and comfortable. Luckily the weather was very nice on a couple of days and warm enough to sit in the garden, which is delightful. The owners were so helpful with the booking and we asked if we could go for an extra night and what would the cost be, Colin kindly said that we could have it free of charge providing he didnt get another booking in the meantime. It took us less then three hours from worcestershire to get to Smithy House and it very close to the lovely village of Pooley Bridge. It is in a great location for all the northern lakes and Penrith is a few minutes drive where this is a Morrisons and a couple of other large supermarkets. We had a couple of takeaways from there too. We have been visting the lake district for 20 years and this was by far the best cottage we have hired. We would certainly recommend this cottage and will definitely be booking it again. Thank you Colin and Della.
