“Refurbished, so forget previous negative comments”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 October 2013

Last stopped here in April immediately prior to the refurb. Everything, and I mean everything, has now changed for the better. Staff are on the ball and welcoming (asked if I knew the area or wanted information about it), rooms well kept, odour free and spotless. Bathroom immaculate and corridors no longer covered in black marks. I bet there is a lot of soul searching at HQ that they were saddled with blue as their corporate colour as a more unwelcoming choice it is hard to imagine! Certainly, on my experience 10 out of 10 this time. There is a Morrisons 3 minutes away in Penrith that serves breakfasts from 8am and a MacDonalds just shy of the Morrisons for those in a hurry.

concerned about some of the reviews, however found this a very good place to stay. all rooms have been refurbished so no problems at all on that score - room was clean tidy spacious and well appointed. Apart from small bar of soap you need your own toiletries. Got a quiet nights sleep too. Wifi available, worked well on arrival but v slow next day, possibly bandwidth issue? however Little Chef opposite has wifi (though I didnt use, so cant vouch for it).Good location short drive or taxi from Penrith centre, lots of good bars and restaurants. bit too far to walk.
Reception staff very friendly and extremely helpful.
What is most impressive - and certainly worthy of praise and a huge commendation to the integrity of all the staff - is that i left my laptop by mistake. Rang later in the day expecting the worst. Staff couldn't have been more helpful, he went straight to my room while I was on the phone, it wasnt there, but he then checked the office and the cleaning staff had handed it in (phew). This was a brand new high spec laptop in a backpack. All credit to the honesty and integrity of all the staff - its restores faith in humanity to know there are still people with values and I got the impression they really care for their customers - the reception guy seemed as pleased as I was when he was able ot hand it back to me! Got the impression they cared. Fantastic service and thought this was worth passing on, I would highly recommend for customer service alone- and of course would most definitely stay again.
Thank you

Rooms good size, but smell of dampness, which did disappear when we open the window in the room and turned on the heating.
Could do with better signs to guide you to the hotel of dual carriage way, and to the reception.
Overall though, for one night, satisfactory, esp. with price we paid.

We stayed here on the way to and from Scotland, a Friday evening and a Saturday evening. The rooms were clean and tidy on both occasions. Check in and out was straightforward, quick and easy. Staff were helpful when we needed them. Great to have a king sized bed rather than a double. Easy access to Penrith and to the motorways to travel onwards. Able to take our dog there too. Would definitely stay again.

Broke our journey to Scotland by staying overnight at Penrith. Place was clean and tidy, staff competent and cheerful, we only needed a meal and a bed for the night before continuing on. Good value for the money so we stopped again on our return

This was the fifteenth of twenty hotels (11 Travelodges, 8 Premier Inns and one other) used by my wife and myself on our tour of Wales and England in August 2013. We had pre-booked and pre-paid for all Travelodges and Premier Inns.

Location:
Adjacent to Little Chef
No Lift. 15 steps of stairs to climb.

Reception:
Receptionist was sweeping area outside when we arrived. Strong smell of slurry from neighbouring fields. Receptionist confirmed accuracy of my observation.
I have rated location poor as a consequence but I acknowledge that with the exception of August it could be excellent

Bedroom:
Large room. Spotless.
Door key seemed faulty: repeated opening attempts necessary at times.
Two chairs. Good storage facilities.Flat screen TV. Tea/ Coffee making facilities. Wall mounted heater.
2 large spare pillows. Large comfortable bed. Very quiet room.

Bathroom:
2 hand towels. 2 bath towels. Shaver socket.
Spotless.

Assessment:
Cost £55 Expensive.
