POSITIVES

• Good value (I paid £46 for a night)
• Handy for an on-site Little Chef
• Close to the A66, about 1.5 miles from the centre of Penrith amd 1/4 mile from the M6.
• Free on-site parking
• Wifi free for 30 minutes and a flat-screen TV

NEGATIVES

• Nothing near the hotel (except the Little Chef)
• Room slightly worn but acceptable.

CONCLUSION

An economical place to stay for one night.

We stayed at the Travelodge Penrith for 3 nights this week, and were pleasantly surprised with the experience. The hotel has been refurbished as part of Travelodge's national programme of upgrades, and the bedroom was large and comfortable - the bed was particularly so, and despite the hotel being close to the A66, we still got a good night's sleep!

The staff were fantastic - nothing was too much trouble, and they always had time to have a few words with you about your day.

The refurbishment obviously concentrated on the rooms, so there are other public areas (e.g. the stairwell) that could also do with some TLC, but hopefully, that will happen in the near future.

As the location is on a dual carriageway, if you want to go towards the M6 or Penrith, you have to go about a mile up to the next island and come back, but in fairness, this was a small inconvenience.

Good bandwidth Wifi enabled us to stream the Test Match on my laptop too! Glad that Travelodge have finally reduced their extortionate charges for Wifi down to the level of Premier Inn.

All in all, a great location to visit the Northern Lake District, or venture 25 miles further north to the Scottish Borders!

Was allocated this room after being moved from Travelodge Carlise M6 due to the fact they had given the room to someone else.

The man at receptionist was very friendly and helpful.

The room was fine, it has a Little Chef and a burger King next to the hotel. Parking is Free

Hotel is near Lake District and is close to Keswick

This was easy to find and not far off the motorway going north. Room was clean with tea and coffee facilities which was welcome although there was only two satchets of tea provided but reception gladly gave you more. Our room was in the annex which was fine but other guests were rather noisy and shutting doors when others were trying to sleep. A handy hint too is to keep ensure door closed otherwise the noise from the expel air drives you crazy.

After a long and hard journey we were looking forward to a meal. Reception kindly gave us a list and directions of all eating facilities in Penrith but all you want to do is eat on site where there is a little chef. This menu is in the room but they don't mention it at check in!!! We had dinner there and again breakfast and it was at breakfast that we found out there is a 10% discount for travelodge guests but again this was not mentioned at. Heck in

We three friends decided to walk down from Penrith to Ullswater Lake and back and Travelodge seemed perfect for the purpose. The hotel is a short walk (around a mile upwards from train station). The staff was very friendly and helpful, explained us everything we wanted to explore, from local attraction to places around and ways to reach there. They helped us in all possible ways, kept our heavy luggage as we were early for check-in, helped us with local food and travel arrangements. We went to Stainton on our way to Pooley Bridge, just on the advise of the staff, and visited King's Arms (which should be a must visit for its lovely location, hospitality and delicious food). Even though this hotel is by the motorway, it was very quiet, and surrounded by beautiful countryside. If and whenever we'll visit Penrith again, this hotel will be on the top of our list.

Stayed here for 2 nights. On arrival the staff were on changeover and were arguing over the booking in sheets. They then argued over which room we were being allocated as the sheet said one thing and the system said another!

We went up to the room and noticed dirty tea stains on the sideboard, hairs in the toilet and the toilet didn't flush. We went straight back to the reception where the receptionist was flustered with a queue of customers booking in as well as trying to resolve our issue. He apologised but was quick to blame the staff on the previous shift by going by the booking sheet and not the system. He gave us another room which apparently had a brand new TV (not a selling point to us!!)

It was an ok hotel to use as a base however there needs to be better organisation by the staff.
