“Excellent base for exploring the Eden Valley and Lake District”
Reviewed 4 October 2016 for a stay in August 2016

The signal box has been superbly restored and provides really good accommodation. We loved the location and will definitely return in future

Liked best: Location and nature of the property
Liked least: The matress on the bed could do with replacing as it had a slight dip towards the middle!

“Unique & Perfect!”
Reviewed 16 August 2016 for a stay in June 2016

My husband has been a Train Driver for over 20 years, so I thought this would be the perfect get-away for us and we were not disappointed! The Signal Box is in a great location if you have a car, close to shops, nice restaurants and pubs (The Beehive Inn was nice with simple but good quality food and excellent service) and far enough off the beaten track to feel you are away from it all. Located close to woodland, which provides lovely walks and a rich backdrop to the fields of sheep and hens that surround the property, the Signal box has all you could want. It has been lovingly renovated to a high standard and you can read all about its history and development during your stay. We also used the walking guides provided and did a really nice walk to Temple Sowerby and also visited Lowther Castle and gardens. We loved our stay and hope to return again soon. The welcome bottle of red wine from Wendy & Gavin was a nice touch too!

“Chickens - Beautiful conversion - great base for exploring”
Reviewed 31 July 2016 for a stay in July 2016

I stayed with my partner and we only have positive words to share. The location is great, a short drive from nearby Penrith, with its shops and cafes, and a 20-50 minute drive from two major lakes, Ullsawater and Windermere, where you can happily explore on foot or by catching one of the frequent steamer boats. The cottage has been thoughtfully converted and has everything you need for a comfortable stay. The chickens staying next door are very friendly (pack some bread) and the log burner in the front room is perfect for when the weather closes in. All in all a wonderful stay, in a very quirky cottage.

“Fantastic”
Reviewed 26 July 2016 for a stay in July 2016

Absolutely wonderful stay. Lovely little house that was perfect for my partner and I. Although on the outskirts of the lake district it has great access and is only a short drive, which we found gave us more beautiful views of the area. The location was brilliant with the ease of getting to the typical attractions around the lakes, whilst also providing the tranquility and remote, relaxed isolation we were after to escape our busy city life. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will be sure to return again!

Thanks so much for your review. We've always thought the Eden Valley was beautiful and ideally situated for visiting the Lake District, but it's often forgotten due to its famous neighbour.
We look forward to your return visit.
Thanks again,
Gavin & Wendy

We had a lovely stay here, commuication before hand with Gavin was quick and friendly. We used this as a base to visit the lakes and it was lovely to be greated by the chickens each time we returned back. The 'cottage' was well supplied even with local os maps which could be borrowed

“Cosy nights in on the edge of a forest”
Reviewed 22 April 2016 for a stay in April 2016

This place is just INCREDIBLE. Stayed in the signal box for 4 nights - as a surprise. Best surprise ever. Even if you're not keen on railways, the location, accommodation and friendliness of the owners can't be beaten. Tranquil nights by the log burner, feeding the chickens, walking in the forest and visiting local attractions, made it all so memorable. Will definitely be returning, bought a lottery ticket on way home in hope of living there permanently....!

Owners helpful, hospitable, efficient and very very kind! Thank you so much Gavin and Wendy.
