First let me say that the food when it actually arrived was quite good, however the service was about as bad as I have ever experienced in a restaurant. We booked the table for 7:15 and arrived on time. We paid a deposit of £40 to book the table. The waitress arrived and asked if we wanted drinks. We ordered a bottle of house white and a merlot red. The wine arrived and the waiter said that the merlot was out of stock but gave us a different merlot. We noticed on the menu that the wine he brought was £3 more expensive and he failed to mention that. We ordered the house red. The wait for the first course was quite long and as we had four children with us we assumed that they would bring the garlic bread for them to start. They didn't. The main course arrived at 8:45. By this time we had spoken to the waitress and then the manager. Our waitress was in all honesty about the surliest person I have ever had in a restaurant. She needs to develop a personality for this job or try a different career. When we had eventually finished the meal sometime after 10:00, the bill arrived. They had not deducted the deposit, they charged for the original red wine, however they did deduct a discretionary amount for the delay. There was also some mention of a service charge, however that was ignored as there was no real service. This is probably the worst revenue I have written on any restaurant and I would think the manager should be aware that we were not the only ones feeling as we did.
