after a bit of trouble trying to find the hotel, we checked in viewed the room and as we were told it was haunted we were scared! when we got in the room the lights didnt work!lol we went to the cozy bar the staff were fantastic the fire was beautiful. we didnt see any ghosts (thank god!) or "feel" anything! we stayed in the penthouse suite it was fantastic and the spa bath was brilliant and big enough for 2,the rooms view was spectacular and the four poster bed was comfy(but it does squeak hahaha) overall view of this hotel is excellent with a propper country feel and would defo stay again,

The Edenhall Hotel is tucked away in the Eden valley in Penrith. Locals told us this beautiful area is sadly overlooked by tourists who flock to the Lake District instead and as we were just looking for a nice quite, cosy place to stay it sounded ideal.

It takes a little finding (you might think yourself on someone's private estate, but keep going) but once there, the Edenhall is a real treat - from the warm treatment we received for the entire duration of our stay to the accomplished meals in the cosy dining room. The bar has a roaring fire going, the bar staff are attentive and the atmosphere is relaxed and friendly.

The rooms are only fair, although the beds are splendid and the billowing pillows aren't the usual spit-through things you get in hotels. The tv had only the usual terrestrial channels along with Sky news and a sports channel, but that was of no great concern to me. My room had just a shower and no bath, but since I was only paying £60 per night, including a full cooked breakfast, that was more than adequate.

The interior is just what you would want from a cosy country hote with ceiling beams, creaky staircases and snug corners. It's set in charming gardens and the whole atmosphere lends itself to relaxation. I can't recommend the Edenhall enough - what really made it special were the staff, who were charming and helpful and really made us feel at home.

I should add a word of warning however - the Edenhall has a reputation for being one of the most haunted in northern England! To add to the local colour, there is also a legend of fairies bestowing "The Luck of Edenhall" on the house, and nearby there's the legend of The Croglin Vampire. The staff told us they do attract some ghost-tourists coming to see if they "sense" something in the hotel.

I have to tell you now that I didn't see or feel anything during my stay! And qute relieved about it too!

  • Liked — Considerate and friendly staff, quiet and relaxed atmosphere.
  • Disliked — The room was adequate, but not outstanding.
  • Tips/Secrets — Room 25 is the most haunted room (apparently!)

I stayed at the hotel for a wedding. It was in a lovely spot - rural but still very handy for the M6. The village is pretty with good walks from the hotel door. There is an interesting preNorman church on the edge of the village.

The room was smallish, but clean and comfortable. Staff were friendly and efficent. The food was absolutely excellent and bar prices were reasonable

My only quibble would be that there is no provision for a cheaper/lighter meal - sandwiches at the bar etc.

  • Liked — Location and food
  • Disliked — No provision for snacks
  • Tips/Secrets — No shops or other pubs/restaurants within walking distance

Welcome to the Edenhall Country House and Restaurant. Our independently run hotel dates back to the mid 17th century, and offers excellent accommodation just 5 minutes from Penrith and the M6 (J40). The village of Edenhall is ideally located for exploring the Lake District and situated in the beautiful Eden Valley, nestling between the rugged Pennine hills and the spectacular Lakeland fells. With 20 en-suite rooms, some of which are pet friendly, we are larger than most B&Bs, but smaller and more intimate than many other Cumbrian hotels, making Edenhall Country House the ideal place for a short bed and breakfast break or a longer holiday. Set in over an acre of beautifully maintained gardens, Edenhall Country House is one of a number of Cumbrian hotels that makes a fabulous setting for civil weddings and wedding celebrations. The hotel is also available for functions including family parties and gatherings as well as conferences during the week. Our restaurant serves home cooked food using the best local produce. For more casual dining, bar meals are available along with a menu of light snacks throughout the day. The large open fire becomes a focal point on cooler evenings, whereas in warmer weather, you are free to enjoy the beer garden or relax in our large conservatory.
