We booked a short weekend break and our large family occupied all three barns, we stayed in West Byre. What an amazing place!!..it exceeded all of our expectations from the cleanliness of the barn to the more than generous welcome pack. The owners are super friendly and nothing was too much trouble whilst also giving us our own space. The accommodation was large, modern and cosy. We would recommend the local pub where we had a perfect meal and there is plenty to do in nearby Penrith and Ullswater. Just a perfect stay for all of us and I’m sure we will be back! Ps the kids were thrilled with the WiFi which is always a concern for them!!
Having previously spent 5 nights in South Byre, the Sojourn North/Salutation Yard properties were my first port of call when booking a short, last-minute break in Cumbria. What a treat to enjoy this gorgeous property in solitary splendour for the same cost per night as an average B&B. It has been renovated to the same high standards as South Byre with lovely quirky design touches including a lovely stand-alone bath of exactly the right length and depth. As hospitable as Jane has been in person and in our emails, the freedom that the code-controlled entry gates and key collection offers as regards arrival time, is a great feature. There's the peace of mind for the solo traveller that the owners are next door if needed but not intrusive. Its a great location for access not only to the Lakes but the Yorkshire Dales, Pennines and western end of Hadrian's Wall. Penrith and its excellent shops are a short drive away without having to take to the M6. After two very enjoyable short stays, I am thoroughly looking forward to returning to South Byre for 3 weeks next year. After a lot of searching, I've found my Cumbrian home-from-home!
We had a delightful one-week holiday at West Barn with our 3-month-old baby. Incredibly well-equipped for a holiday rental, comfortably furnished, spotlessly clean and perfectly positioned to explore the Lakes. Jane was a joy to deal with and a wealth of local knowledge. Even a couple of rainy days didn't dampen our stay - the perfect excuse to bunker down with newspapers (and wine!) at the lovely local pub and boardgames at the barn.
A wonderful place to stay. Perfectly placed for the Lakes or even popping into Scotland. Everything you could possibly need is available and Jane and Duncan leave some treats too.
It was lovely to meet up with my parents and they were even able to bring their dog, he is 17 years old and they are loathe to leave him behind these days.
Wonderfully comfortable beds, plenty of space for us, and more.
Word of warning re the local pub, the dog and gun......If you want to eat there, make sure you book, it is tiny! We did go for a drink or too later in the week and they are really friendly.
We also recommend the boot and shoe pub in nearby greystoke.
I would definitely recommend this wonderful place, and hope to come back again.
We love it here. Beautiful accommodation - clean, well furnished and modern. We've been five times now and we'll visit again soon. Thanks.
