We were booked into this B and B for work as it was in a superb location (nextdoor!!) to our Job. With a warm welcome and friendly hello we were shown to our room, a hugely generous size, "spa" room, with its on bathroom attached, a very good tea station stocked to the brim and clean bedding with colour TV.

We were leaving earlier than breakfast was stated, but we delighted that Paul said he would get up a little earlier to accomodate our empty tummys adn off we went for our days work. On what was originally a 3 day stay, we did end up staying longer. As we were so happy with Foxghyll we rebooked and stayed a futher 4 nights.

Absolutely stunning views, a quiet location, and very pretty grounds, this is a delightful place to stay and puts my faith back into B&Bs.

Top marks from me! TIM

Room Tip: I'm not sure what the other rooms have to offeer, but the spa room was fantastic.

Fox ghyll House has a fantastic location along a quiet road just away from the hussle and bussle of Ambleside town centre. The house is simply wonderful, large and roomy with fantastic views and access to the mountains that literally back onto the garden. The garden is just huge, we were lucky enough to experience a dry weekend, and could have spent all day there. We even saw deers from our window over breakfast.

The hotel only operates 3 rooms, and our 4-poster room was absolutely delightful, with high ceilings, beautiful decorative touches and a stunning view. The nights were just so quiet and peaceful.

The en-suite bathroom was lovely and light, again with a window over the garden. No shower, but a large sized bath.

Breakfast was excellent, and service very friendly. 5* for the bacon cooked to perfection. Look forward to our next stay and meeting Dennis again ;)

Room Tip: 4-Poster Room, has Lovely Views. + very large room

What a find Foxghyll was. Myself and my wife have been visiting the Lakes for many years, and had vary degrees of quality and experience in the places we've stayed. However, we stumbled across Foxghyll on a beautiful walk from Ambleside, and were simply blown away by the size and beauty of the property and the rooms. The garden is like a park in itself, and in letting only 3 rooms, they are all of a generous size. We stayed in the 4-Poster room, which was simply huge, with a lovely light en-suite bathroom. Amazing views across the gardens to the mountains beyond.

I thought the price to be fantastic value for money given the standards we'd come to expect from other B&B's in the area.

Breakfast was just what we wanted, fresh & tasty, and Paul was an exceptional host. We've booked for this August, and look forward to visiting again. Highly recommended !

Room Tip: 4-Poster Room has stunning views of the hills.

Had only one night's stay here but the setting is absolutely sublime! Views over Loughrigg are stunning, house itself is a treasure, rooms are large and spacious. Paul is a a very friendly chap, always willing to help or recommend a place to eat. I could have given this Guest House a much lower rating - it has been given the marks i gave it PURELY for location, tranquility, gardens and the house itself is wonderful. However, i totally agree with another review on here....as soon as you walk in the front door, an overpowering stale odour of cigarettes greets you. Now, if the owner smokes, so be it.....but if you are suppose dto be a 4* establishment, then it shouldn't smell like an old ashtray! I actually smoke, but only outside, even at home....it's very off-putting. Now, the rooms are very spacious with the en-suites and views are lovely - BUT, the whole place is in desperate need of a good through clean right through from top to bottom. The shower room had cobwebs hanging from toilet to shower door, the grouting in the shower hasn't been cleaned EVER, the pillows in our room were STAINED and this was visible through the pillow cases! Beds comfy, slept well....but hygiene needs to be addressed. Whilst the house in parts dates from the 16th Century, i feel that it could be revamped to emphasise the period it comes from. It most definately doesn't deserve it's 4 Star rating - why hasn't anyone picked up on this before? The breakfast itself was ok - but not the classic hearty English breakfast that one should expect in a 4 star guest house. Again, the breakfast room was lovely, well set out but looking over to a table near the kitchen door, the underneath of the table legs were thick with dust? Small changes to the place would make this Superb - gardens are beautiful, peaceful and glorious to sit in and just relax. But the house itself is suffering from proper cleaning - and whatever one pays for a room, one should at LEAST expect it to be thouroughly cleaned? Maybe others that have given rave reviews don't live in clean houses?

Enjoyed a superb few days here. Amazing, large rooms & The setting must be one of the most beautiful in the Ambleside area. The spring flowers and trees could not have been more beautiful--so large and rich, intense and vibrant. The view from the large sweeping gardens over the river and fells beyond is breath-taking. The road to Foxghyll is the most peaceful in the area--closed to all but local traffic thus making it a lovely path upon which to walk to town. The welcome and hospitality we received was friendly and caring. The price was most competitive!

We stayed just before the Christmas period and we were so happy with the B&B. Such a large house, and such welcoming hosts. They only operate 3 rooms, but this just makes the place so much more unique and special. Gigantic, clean room. En-suite bathroom bigger than most rooms I've stayed in. Coal fire in guests lounge. Full English that was served at a time that suited us. Paul was an excellent host, as was Dennis the chihuahua !

(£35 PPPN) - I've paid 4x the amount for far less in the past, especially in rip-off Lake District. An absolute find and shall be returning soon.
