“Good stay in Windermere”
Reviewed 24 August 2014

Spent two nights at Orrest Cottage, ideal to visit Windermere, half an hour walking distance down to Bowness-on-Windermere. The B&B is mostly appreciated by walkers, easier to reach the surrounding fells. Building is pretty small, as the rooms, but with noticeable care and attention. David is a very gentle owner, breakfast is very good, even if breakfast time 8.30-9 is quite short. Price is quite high, probably because Windermere is a quite popular tourist destination.

Hi were glad you enjoyed your stay, the B&B is a 200 year old Lakeland cottage so naturally and by design cottages are different to hotels! they are quirky lovely and full of character if not massive in terms of square foot.

Were sorry you thought the price was high, your stay was in August (the summer season) in the main honey pot town of Windermere, prices vary massively out of season.

We pride ourselves on consistently being one of the most competitively priced B&B's in the area hence the reason we are always fully booked!

Hope to see you again someday

David

We arrived at Orrest Cottage at about 12 on Saturday 16th August. David had very kindly sent instructions by email on how to access our room key. He also provided me with information on local eating places and was very helpful. Our room was number one on the first floor. It is a lovely room with a very comfortable bed and generous supply of tea, coffee and milk and biscuits. The decor was very homely and the room very clean and tidy. Our window looked out onto a busy street but this was no problem as the traffic quietens down at night. A folder of useful information was provided and we left the room happily to attend the wedding. On our return we had a great night's sleep and woke refreshed looking forward to our cooked breakfast. We went downstairs at 8.30 for breakfast and we were greeted by Laura who was lovely and friendly and David too. The breakfast was outstanding, and cooked perfectly. It felt very homely and warm and Laura chatted to us about our stay and where we were from. We would not hesitate to book Orrest Cottage again, we thoroughly enjoyed our short stay.

Room Tip: Our room was excellent, it was facing the road but this was not a problem as the traffic quietens at...

Wonderful location, excellent facilities, lovelly decor and one of the best breakfasts possible. David was extremely curtious, very helpful when i contacted him explaining the parking of our car and advising us where to travel around this stunning area. Thank you David for your hospitality.

This B&B is outstanding, I have stayed in 5 star hotels where the breakfast isn't anywhere near as good as you get here. We were made to feel very welcome by the owner. I can honestly say this is the best B&B i have ever stayed in, the rooms were immaculate and windermere town is literally around the corner (1 min walk). We got this at an amazing price as well considering it was a sat night. A very pleasant, friendly B & B, would definitely stay here again!

We recently stayed at Orrest cottage for a short break and we loved it. The house is well decorated and is very clean. The owners were brilliant, from making us excellent home cooked breakfasts on both mornings, to advising us where the best walks are in the area. You have an in house Lake District guide as your host. The location in Windermere is good, close to the centre. The home made flap jack on arrival was tasty and a nice treat. Highly recommended.

Loved the decor, the lovely little lounge area and the nice comfy bed and pillows. Lots of nice little touches including a good dvd collection, toiletries, nice breakfast area and a great choice of breakfasts. My husband and i are quite tall so found the bathroom and the bedroom a little on the small side, the shower particularly was a bit of a squeeze! we also got a lot of traffic noise from the busy road outside but we did have the window open all night as it was a very warm evening. It's a bit of a walk into the town but there are quite a few shops and pubs and bars very nearby, and just round the corner we found a fab cocktail bar called the lighthouse. over all a pleasant place to stay, particularly enjoyed the breakfast and loved the fact that they had home made breads and granola.

Room Tip: room three is on the third floor and has a little living area with a tv, and en suite, not sure if t...

The Orrest Cottage B & B is a cosy, comfortable & very friendly place to stay. They provide an excellent breakfast with various choices other than a full English. However the personally cooked Hearty Cumbrian Breakfast makes for a great start to the day!
