Storrs Lodges

Have stayed here twice, first occasion in lodge 4 and the next time in lodge 3.
The grounds are absolutely beautiful and it was wonderful and peaceful to stroll along paths or just sit on the lawn.
My daughter was especially delighted to come within 4 metres of a deer on the front lawn and captured the most amazing photograph.
The lodges themselves are delightful with woodland to the front and lake views to the back, off a rear patio. The self contained units had everything we needed to self cater. We had such a superb time we will be visiting again year after year.

Lodges

Dear Helen T,

That photograph is really good. Quite unique to get a shot that close, looking straight into the camera. Must be a talented photographer in the making. Thank you for your entry, describing the stay in our lodges. If we can assist you again (and again) with another reservation please do not hesitate to contact our reservation department, the hotel or myself.

Kind regards,

Jan van Stipriaan

We have always loved the Lake District and when it came to deciding where to get married, although there are plenty of suitable venues in South Manchester / Cheshire, it was obvious to us that the Lakes gave us the idyllic location. After a day planned looking at venues across the South Lakes, we started at Storrs...then another other 7 venues. They didn't have a chance! Storrs is not only a beautiful building but it's location on Windemere and views are impossible to beat. Add to that the staff led by 'Jan the man' and Laura, who provide an amazing service without being too intrusive, the food, menus, wines...I could go on. Our wedding day was perfect, something you hear a lot of people say to describe their wedding, but it really was...everything that I have already mentioned, but add to that 'attention to detail' and 'little touches' all we can say is thank you. We're already looking forward to staying on our anniversary next July. Dominic and Katie Marsden

If you are planning on visiting Windermere I would recommend only a 2 night stay. We had booked Mon-Fri and decided to leave on the Wednesday. Without doubt it is a beautiful place however, as stated on the website the lodges do not have a view of the lake as it is surrounded by trees, I would not say it is private as you can walk around the lodges from garden to garden. Just a few things we were not happy with for example we were told parking is available in front of the lodges in fact its not quite in front which is misleading.

If you are looking to have fun and just wanted to add a little more to your couple of days away then we would not recommend as it is very isolated and found there is not really much to do apart from walking and driving around.

Service overall was satisfactory!

Room Tip: Double check the details of the room as our lodge stated king size bed infact it was double

Dear Shar786,

Thank you for your entry and taking the time to write about your stay and giving your view on staying in the Lakes. The lodges are indeed in the grounds; the hotel and the lodges are situated within our own woods. From a number of the lodges you can look onto the lake shore. For lodge parking there is a choice of 2 locations. We are not in a position to have cars parked in front of the door of each lodge, which contributes at the same time to the quietness around the lodges and the grounds. Bowness is, by car, a couple minutes away from the lodges. In the hotel, as well as in the lodge itself, there is a wide selection of tourist information of the area.

Kind regards,

Jan van Stipriaan

Our second stay at Storrs Lodges and ended up in the same lodge which suited us fine. On our first trip we chose Storrs Lodges because we wanted to bring our dog on holiday. We had great weather and the dog had a ball. Since then our dog passed away and we now have a new young dog and wanted to give her the same great break that her predecessor got.

Once again we got great weather and our new dog absolutely loved it. Great walks through the woods and along the lakeside at sunrise and sunset and the whole area is very dog friendly.

Comfortable beds meant a good nights sleep, and the facilities provided everything that was needed.
Excellent value for money. We have happily recommended it to friends ( some of whom are there as this revierw is being written) and I'm sure we will be back again in the future.

This was our first stay in the Lakes and we were not disappointed. Arrived early and had a walk around the grounds and a drink in the hotel which felt like you had just stepped in to an Agatha Christie novel.
The lodges were modern in comparison and were not visible from the hotel but you had your own private view of the lake after going down a small slope. We chilled out on our patio most evenings enjoying the peace and the view.
The decor is fairly basic but could do with spruce up in the corners a few cobwebs and mould here and there but overall very nice.
The lodges are about a 20min walk to Bowness along the main road and you can catch a ferry to Hill Top Farm and Hawkshead for 50p per person on foot from the Ferry port about half way look for the sign.
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and looking to book again next year.

Dear antoin,

The Lakes are a lovely area to be in, on holiday or to work. I am not sure if I we were ever featured in a novel by Agatha Christie. Need to check. Your comments summarise the setting quite well. The lodge comments have been discussed in the meantime internally.
Thank you for your comments and please do not hesitate to contact again our reservation department or the hotel for another lodge reservation.

First holiday with a dog in the Lakes and it was brilliant. I was worried reading some of the reviews, however the lodge was clean and nicely furnished (Belle Isle) Yes the carpets were past their best but felt more relaxed knowing the dog could not do much damage! Much better than I had expected and I was surprised that the lodges were not fully booked for the half term holidays. Great value! The lodges are in a U shape and are more like chalets. Fantastic location. Weather mixed but did not spoil it for us.The grounds of the hotel were fantastic for walking the dog especially at sunrise and sunset. The added bonus was the pass to swim at Low Wood Hotel leisure facilities, the children loved the outdoor spa. Definitely recommend for location, parking, and leisure facilities. Visit the Queens Head in Troutbeck, food delicious. Surprised not more dog friendly pubs in the area but found The Elleray in Windemere friendly and nice food, though basic inside. Would definitely recommend but would prefer to keep hidden secret.

Dear Campbell7

Thank you for taking the time to write about our lodges and your experiences. I am afraid the secret is out now. Only a few of our lodges are permitted with dogs and you stayed in one of them, reading your comments. Our hotel bar and restaurant is open to lodge guests, depending on the booking situation. Information on this can be given, during your stay, on a daily basis, by our hotel reception. Dogs can not be permitted in public areas, including the restaurant and the bar.
Please do not hesitate to contact our reservation department or the hotel to make another reservation for one of our lodges.

Kind regards,

I stayed at the Storrs lodges with a group of friends over new year. We had a great time. The lodge I stayed in was for 4 people and was big enough for us all. The kitchen facilities were excellent with plenty of cutlery / crockery etc. The lodges were very clean. they are in close proximity to the main hotel which is lovely, esp in the winter as it has lovely open fires to sit around. The only negative would be the cost of drinks in the hotel, I always expect to pay more in a quality hotel but I felt this was a bit too much, for example approximately £5 for a lager shandy is a tad expensive!
Overall though an excellent stay in lovely lodges with great surroundings, would definitely recommend.

Dear walker2000,

Having your party staying at our lodges was most enjoyable for you and ourselves, as your party went out of their way to fit in with and enjoy the New Year festivities at the hotel. The entertainment, the meal in the cellar, the wine tasting and all the various other planned activities worked very well.

The charge for that particular drink I do not understand and seems to me to be an error. I am most willing to correspond with you on this and refund where necessary. Please do not hesitate to contact me on this issue.

Thank you for taking the time to write on Tripadvisor. Perhaps your party can make it into an annual anniversary and together we can discuss what other plans we can make for another enjoyable stay.

Looking forward to hear from you.

Kind regards,

Jan van Stipriaan
